Antidepressants causing depression ?

Hi,Does anyone else here feel like their depression worsens when they take antidepressants??? I initially started taking ADs about 16 years ago for anxiety and the anxiety goes away but I end up feeling depressed when on them. Then, I try and get off of them and the anxiety returns. I’ve tried 7-8 different meds and they seem to all affect me the same way. I’m tired of trying meds and the multiple side effects that they come with. I’m highly sensitive to these meds and withdrawals when I try and go off them. Anyone else in the same boat and do you have any suggestions?

TIA

Been there plenty of times. Each anti depressant has a side effect of a possible increase in depression.

Anxiety is a cause of depression. Anxiety to overwhelmingness resulting into depression if not treated well.

Many meds I have been on haven’t really helped either. If I was to give the best which helped out it would be Imipramine.

Medication is a part of controlling the depression as the other part is yourself trying to gain strength to get by it. I may not me easy but for sure success is somewhere down the road for you.

Again, I have been there and know how you feel completely. Have hope. 😊

Thanks for your reply! Do you currently take medication? I agree with what you said that medication is only a part of the solution.. is just seems that being on any medication makes me feel apathetic and it’s much harder to work on coping skills because I don’t feel like I need them until I’m off meds and the anxiety kicks in again.

I am on an anxiety med. I do understand on you losing focus. It has happened to me often too. I feel more relieve the less meds. My socializing as into mood has been affected from many directions. My anxiety comes from a different angle. So it needs a different approach. Anxiety for sure is a challenge but no doubt we all will get through it. 😊

Hi Jaco - was reading a synopsis on patientslikeme.com/conditions iron-deficiency on patients who were taking antidepressants when they had an underlying anaemia condition. If you haven't had a recent blood test for B12 and iron, and other vitamins

thyroid and diabetes, then may be you should have one done to reassure you there is nothing else which might undermine your health. Many people are drug sensitive and have food intolerances. I take an antihistamine drug every day, and have to watch certain foods which can cause IBS. Drugs are in different classifications - the newer drugs work differently to the old ones. May be you should log onto drugs.com - find each of your drugs and find out what side effects are listed. If the drugs are incompatible with each other then your chemist should be able to help you. Pharmacists have 5 years of training, a doctor in the UK has about 6 weeks in pharmacy training. Do you live in the UK?
