I am spending my first weekend at my new place deep in the north woods. I have a crackling fire, though the night is still warm. My dog is snoring next to my chair. The smoke is reaching for the tree tops, and that black sky above. I look up at a billion stars decorating the heavens, and I feel complete. The darkness of the woods makes the sounds of the creatures a mystery. I am lucky enough to see a shooting star, and I get to share it with only you. I am alone here with my dog, but I feel like the world is here hugging me.
This is the feeling of contentment, this is serenity. This is the place that I can visit, in my mind, when my reality is out of sorts. I have worked hard and patiently for this day, and it is way better than I ever dreamed.

wonderful : you have a place where you feel happy and serene. I am very happy for you, i even imagine the place and feel a little bit there ...and it makes me calm and happy too.
gerg, I envy you. Your visualization of the serenity you have all around you relaxed me as I read your post. Nothing as serene as nature at it's purest. Thank you for sharing, will be looking forward to updates. xx
You are inciteful and intelligent.Your posts show this. I am glad that you find comfort from isolation and nature. Although I am of a spiritual nature (not religious) and appreciate what you are saying, I would not be happy there. I need the company of my loved ones to find peace.
Do you mean in your memory? I need their physical presence. I am a tactile person and suffer from loneliness and a degree of isolation which I find very hard to cope with. You seem tohave an inner strength which I lack. Your genes have been kind to you. I have inherited a tendency to nervousness and depression.
