Doctors and meds

Still new here. Does anyone have any experience with doctors who don't seem to listen? No matter who I go to they just want to keep increasing my dose. I started feeling better lately by weaning myself to a smaller dose but i still feel like my doctor sees me as a statistic and not a person.

A couple years back I was very excited to be referred to a specialist that worked at very reputable hospital dealing with depression and anxiety issues. For me personally I suffer from a lot of physical pain or somatic as they call it. After patiently waiting three or four months I finally had my appointment. After a 45 minute assessment from a psychologist. 15 minutes later I saw the doctor in question a psychiatrist. The conversation we had lasted two minutes. I was to double or increase my medication, and exercise three times a week for 45 minutes. I don't think I ever had rage and disappointment coexist so strongly together. good luck and stay strong.

I honestly never understood the point of psychiatrists. They prescribe meds, which my family physician can do and knows me better.

Hi!

I have a family doctor and at first I was soooo hype! But then I fought 3-4 years because I knew something was off with me! I had many psycologist , doctors and everything and she never wanted to help or search what was going on. I went at the hospital once because I had a rough panic attack. That's when she realised I had something going on. I talked honestly with her and now everything is nice! Hang in there and express yourself, fight for it!

Hi in theory psychiatrists should know mental health drugs a lot better than a general doctor. A GP isn't a specialist in mental health and probably has only a small knowledge of it.

I think seeing a therapist in conjunction with a psychiatrist is key. Don't force anyone to put you on medication if you don't want it. I refused anti aniexty meds and just was prescribed Zanax as needed. My wish. I try natural things and even suggest a naturopath doctor. Do what you want and feel best. Gather information and make your decisions that work best for you and your issues. Knowing you have other options is key. Best to you.

I had a wonderful gp for 40 years. He understood anxiety & depression, referred me to a psychiatrist,& saw me whenever I needed support, but he retired my present gp prescribes, but has no compassion or understanding of anxiety related illnesses, the way they fluctuate etc.

They seem like drug dealers to me. ..you go in pay your money, they listen for 15 minutes and write prescriptions. Then you go back in 30 days and if you're worse or not feeling bettet they give you more drugs. I wish I lived in a legal cannabis state. That would help me tremendously.
