Hi, I'm new here and looking for help. My name is Mary and i've been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, as well as the others listed above. I'm having an extremely hard time right now. Last year, I lost my step father & brother within a month of each other, Lost my job, and 3 weeks ago ended a 15 year engagement/relationship with the Man I had planned to spend the rest of my life with. I think he had different ideas... I've been crying every single day. Suicidal ideations, although I won't do anything, as I have family that I couldn't do that too. I'm on meds but I don't think it's enought. How do you get a Dr to understand that the meds you are on are either not working or needs improvement? I'm desperate. Thank you

Every person responds to medication differently, how long have you been taking your current prescriptions? Have you tried individual therapy?

I was on Paxil for about 10 years, but then this latest epsiode got me really down, even suicidal ideations. This "new" dr prescribed something new and took me off paxil. Then he's added to my new presciption, but i'm not there yet. Very sad. tears every single day and I hate it. I go back to him in April. I don't know if I can make it that long though.

I have been where you are and I can tell you this. If your doctor is not working with you, go find another. When I started on the path to treatment, I went through 4 psychiatrists before I found one who not only listened to me but understood what it was I was dealing with, a she.

of course I had my doubts about her diagnosis. For example, I had complained that I also had sleep issues that I had formerly treated with a lot of coffee and eventually lots of red bulls, which no longer seem to be doing the work, and she responded by telling me that I had a sleep disorder, most likely narcolepsy. I of course didn't believe her cause I had never had any doctor before her suggest any such. But she ordered I get sleep study tests done and I did them, and sure enough, the diagnosis came back exactly as she had said.

when I can back to her with the results from the sleep doctor, asking her what that then meant. She responded that the sleep study was for me - basically sending me out to a sleep specialist was her way of convincing me that I did in fact have the issue and ought to be on the meds she had convinced me of.

what I am saying is if your doctor is not working, try another. Don't just conclude that medication does not work. Medication works, you just need to work with the right doctor to get the right meds and doses for you

Maybe u need to do a voluntary entrance into a inpatient facility for a med adjustment to help an maybe they can have some new options as to out patient it's a sucky thought but had to do this with my daughter a few times
