apixiban and vitamin supplements

I have recently been prescribed apixiban for atrial fib. I had been taking a regular series of vitamin supplements including magnesium taurate, zinc, and vit d 3 with k2 and recently added extra k2. at present i take omega 3 supplement and red krill oil. doctor says they are ok. I have picked up the danger of taking k2 with anticoagulant medicine. should i stop taking the k2? I am constantly light headed and dizzy, should i stop supplements?

Hi davcol24,

I am not a medical expert but have been on apixaban for nearly 2 months now so I’ve been doing lots of research. I’m pretty sure the vitamin K issue only applies to warfarin, which needs a lot more monitoring and regulation than apixaban, which is part of a newer family of anti-coagulants. My GP ok’d all of my supplements and over the counter meds, I think the only ones to avoid are ibuprofen and aspirin. There is some useful stuff on the nhs website if you search apixaban re side effects and what to avoid. I don’t know anything about your condition but it might be worth contacting your doctor again to check about the light headedness - I am taking it for pulmonary embolism and I have only experienced that when I try to do too much and tire myself out, which does not take much doing at the moment!
