Currently on Apixaban (low dose-2.5 mg twice daily)after DVT and PE 6 months ago. Due to take 4 hr flight next week. Any advice on whether I should wear flight socks and/or increase the dose prior to the flight.

HI!! I'm on Rivaroxaban for life after 4th dvt in 10years.

why are you on such a low dose? i'm on 20mg once daily. i was advised to wear stockings but keep my dose as it is. if i ever flew while i was off it i had to take clexane injections. i would ask your doctor really because of the low dose but definitely wear stockings, drink plenty and keep alcohol to a minimum, keep walking around too.

hope i've helped x

Put me on low dose just as precaution. They don't know what caused the DVT and whether it is likely to recur. Will do as suggested and follow the guidlines, plenty water, no alcohol (bummer) and foot exercises etc. Ta.

Hi I'm on 2.5mg twice a day also I was told by consultant to wear compression socks if going on long journey or sitting for long length of time I wouldn't up the dose unless you consult either gp that's the only advice I could give you is to check with gp

My husband is on warfarin for life and we are long hauling in August.

Just a quick question for you can you get Medical support stockings on prescription? My husband has them with the correct pressure for his legs from the doctors as they told him compression socks are not good enough.

Re compression stockings - I am on Warfarin for life and have compression stockings on prescription. I am tested annually to insure correct pressure, size etc. Ask your surgery. I take my usual dose of Warfarin and make sure I wear the stockings for flights. My doc has said that if I am worried over long haul I could get an injection of heparin for the flight.

Hi, my DVT was 6 months ago and I recently flew on a short flight, did not up dose or wear socks as mine was in thigh. I just kept moving feet and legs, although not trying to worry you but legs do not feel good since I have been back, I have what you call restless legs, may not be related but weird only happened since flight.

Hi, I have just noticed that your dose is 2.5mg. Did you start on 5mg and then reduce which is what they have done to me this week. I also had a DVT in December and have been on higher dose for 6 months. Not sure if you have already flown but as mentioned below in a previous reply I have and had no problems, legs just a bit stiff.

Was on 5mg and reduced to 2.5. No idea what caused my DVT so on this dose as a precaution. Wore flight socks for 4hr flight as recommended by my doctor and had no problems.

Thanks for replying. Did you notice any difference when you reduced dose. It's all a bit scary but will wait and see how I feel. Take care
