Anaemia anyone?
I am wondering if anyone with PMR and/or GCA (both of which I've got/had) has also been diagnosed with
anaemia
. I notice that Pernicious
Anaemia
is another autoimmune condition. My GP called me in as my monthly blood tests had suggested I might have
anaemia
.

Query of whether I have Pernicious Anaemia
She has booked me for another gastroscopy for her to do biopsies to confirm whether I have pernicious
anaemia
or not. I am now wondering whether I do have true Pernicious
Anaemia
. I self inject twice a week and sometimes still have pins and needles and weakness, however has much improved.

Gastric Parietal Cell Antibody
The auto-antibody is found at high frequency in association with autoimmune gastritis and a proportion of these patients will progress to develop pernicious
anaemia
. Gastric parietal cell antibodies are present in over 90% of patients with pernicious
anaemia
(Highly sensitive, but not specific).

Megaloblastic anaemia
He sent me for blood test and I was diagnosed with megaloblastic
anaemia
yesterday. My b12 and iron are low. I was advised to buy vitamin D supplements. If I can't get the injection the gp wrote, is there a different brand I could ask for? I live in London, UK.

Results query
The presence of anti intrinsic factor antibodies together with a low vitamin B12 level is diagnostic of pernicious
anaemia
Does this make sense to anyone and could you please explain it to me as they said I had pernicious
anaemia
but didn't fully explain the results. Thanks in advance

Anaemia query
Is it at all possible to have some form of
anaemia
, even though blood results dont support that or are inconclusive? I havent felt well now for 4 years and have driven myself to distraction trying to pin down what is going on-convinced myself I was hypothyroid but Im not.

iron tablet joy
morning, I’ve just been diagnosed with iron deficiency
anaemia
and am on day 8 of iron tablets. Yesterday diarrhoea started. I’m interested in people experiences in how long this lasted.

Another cause of Pernicious Anaemia?
We know that certain gastric operations cause Pernicious
Anaemia
and therefore lifelong b12 injections are required . But what I’ve never seen mentioned is the possibility of radiotherapy cancer treatment in the region of the stomach that contains the parietal cells , causing Pernicious
Anaemia
.

My doctors won’t investigate
But my GP is not making the link to pernicious
anaemia
despite my diet being rich in B12 foods and me already taking iron and b12 supplements.
Anaemia
runs in my family as well as bowel cancer. I didn’t know there was a link before. I cannot get access to injections and the necessary treatment.

Wondering about the possibility of Pernicious Anaemia?
Hello everyone, My B12 is historically low normal and one of my GP’s thinks it could be due to a fast metabolism. However, my mind wont let it rest and some people have on the thyroid uk forum have suggested i get tested for PA but i am not sure i fit the criteria to ask my GP again. Or may be just

anaemia
could be due to long term use of PPIs rather than autoimmune gastritis. (By the way stopped PPIs in December last year) .

I feel like crying ...
So now the GP who told me I had Pernicious
anaemia
is back tracking and not supporting further investigation. I have never been a vegetarian, never been on PPI and never had any stomach operation so how on earth did my B12 get as low as 106 ng/L!!!

Case Report of PA with SACD in Japan
This wasn't even a complex case, for example lacking
anaemia
or a functional deficiency, so there seems really no excuse for not catching that via a regular B12 serum downtrend over time along with MCV.
