After having a water infection I had a scan which found a cyst on my left kidney. The scan suggested there was something else so I had another scan and was told this was kidney cancer.
My consultant said it was to small to cut out has he probably wouldnt be able to find it. So he’s put me on 6 month reviews “watch and wait.” My worry is it may spread. Looking for some clarity here.

I had the same thing happen to me. I had a urinary tract infection and following that they did an ultrasound and found a mass on my left kidney. Doctor told me it was most likely cancer so I had my kidney removed. After they examined the mass, it wasn’t cancer.
Many thanks for your reply. I’ve spoken to someone else who that happened to. I can’t imagine the shock you must have felt. At the moment it’s a waiting game for me. Thank you once again.
Hi, I joined this forum because my husband has a suspected kidney carcinoma, but it is in a position they can't biopsy to check. So they suggested CT scans every 6 months to see if it grows. I noticed your question was from 6 months ago. Have you had your follow up? how are you doing?
Hi Hope2learn My wife's cancer was found after she had a scan for a water infection. Her consultant told her that it was so small that even if he tried to cut it out he wouldn't be able to find it,..it was that small. Since then she as been back for another scan, blood test etc. He says it as grown but is still to small for surgery. She is on ''watch and wait' for 12 months, will review her then and decide what action to take. Either take it out via Laparoscopy procedure, or Burn it?
A good question hope! They haven’t been able to take a biopsy they said they can identify it by that fact that it is a solid growth. So that gets you thinking can they be really sure. Before they do any surgery we will want to know more. We’re are you up to anyway?
in my husband's case they says it is a suspected carcinoma and his case was discussed in the MDT meeting. They decided the tumour (they use a different name, I can't remember) was to close to main veins going into the heart and too small for a biopsy to be done safely. So he is to be scanned again in October (6 months from last scan) to check if there is any growth. The consultant said they will monitor every 6 months. If there is no growth then it is assumed to be benign. If they see growth and gets to more than 3cm, they will remove it.
So it is now a matter of patience.... but not easy because the likelihood of cancer in these cases is 3 in 4 cases.
quite scary Hope and more so confusing.?? They always look for an easy way of making a cancer diagnosis by calling it a tumour or growth rather than sparing us going from the positive to the negative. We are in their hands at this time but we are not far from challenging them if my wife feels things are not right.
