I have arched feet

I have arched feet and my son inherited them. May I ask if he will get amn? I see the introduction of arch foot, which is caused by neurological diseases.

Do you have a similar situation? Do I need to take him for gene sequencing?

May I ask where you heard about this connection? It doesn't seem a likely connection to neurological diseases. Not everyone has flat feet.

Has anyone else ever heard of this?

Never heard of this.

I grew up with flat feet, which was the explanation by the doctor for how I walked, now suspected to be related to the AMN.

HI Jayxie, do you have a diagnosis of being a carrier of ALD/AMN? Or do any of your family have a diagnosis? Having arched feet is very normal I think and would not normally be an initial symptom of ALD or AMN. Sufferers do have problems with their feet but it tends to be more in connection to balance causing toes to turn under. If you would like to talk further then please don't hesitate to contact me karen@alextlc.org

Of course if you are concerned about any health issue than you should always discuss with your doctor.

Hi,

Are you male or female? A man will only pass the X gene on to his daughter but a women has a 50% chance to pass onto boy or girl!

All the best

Hello, I am a male, 30 years old, and my son is 3 years old. I know that I only pass Y to my son. But I'm still suspicious of his heel. Is it reported that amn is passed on to sons?

I had to look this up and yes, it's a bona fide possibility of an inherited neurological disorder: The most common form of HPN is hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy (HMSN), also called Charcot–Marie–Tooth (CMT) disease. Prevalence is estimated at about 17–40 per 100,000 : ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

But please note, this does not pertain to ALD/AMN.

I'm with SongStream

Likely just about any neurological disease can be confirmed with a genetic test, though, if your symptoms aren't causing you any major problems, getting insurance to pay for it could be a challenge.

31 years ago our neuro asked to look at our feet adter being diagnosed. Yes high arches are linked to ALD/AMN. Both my mum and my brother (AMN deseased) also had theur feet looked at and had high arches.

How old is your brother now? Is his child's foot normal? Ald /amn genetic rule, I will not pass the x gene to my son. I don't know if it's inherited alone, but there are people around you who are completely normal.

My brother died 23 years ago hun. He had 2 sons and cannot pass it to them..

Thank you. Does amn affect life? Your brother did not inherit his feet from his son, did he?

You mean my symptoms due to amn deficiency, such as dark skin, thinning hair, arched feet, etc., are passed on to my son. But the defective gene won't be passed on to him, will it?

If you are a male you cannot pass ALD to your sons. You can pass dark skin (if not Addisons related) trait to your son, you can pass flat feet or high arches trait to your son, you can pass thinning hair to your son...although some of those things may be related to AMN in some cases...most cases of those traits occur if are NOT related to the x-ALD gene.

You WILL pass the ALD gene to any daughters (as you must give them an X gene to make them female, which would be affected) and they will carry that gene and may pass it down to THEIR sons or daughters.

Hello, thank you very much for your reply.

Excuse me female carrier, how big is the risk of disease? My doctor told me that a female carrier has an 80 percent risk after age 60. Do you know the information and data of female carriers?

Because my wife wants to have a daughter, she said she can get her daughter to have a prenatal examination when she gets married and pregnant, but I am still worried that her daughter will have a seizure.

Females that carry this gene used to simply be called “carriers” but more recently it has been found that the majority do eventually get symptoms as they age...often beginning after 40 (mine began in my mid to late 30s) but the symptoms tend to be more similar to the AMN form of X-ALD involving trouble with the low back and legs (gait, balance, neuropathy, pain) and can be misdiagnosed as MS. It is very very rare for females to get the cerebral type that would cause seizures and other brain issues. Hopefully by the time you might have a daughter and she’s ready to have children they will have come up with a treatment and cure to fix it all!
