Just a question all I might be repeating myself but as no medication that is effective on me I know take 1.25 mg bisoprolol a day but have also been prescribed 50 mg twice a day flecainide which I also tried but boy what some ecg readings so spoke to cardio they said stop if I don't feel right lol but when I work hard sometimes I get high bpm readings about 170bpm I stop work rest and it drops back to about 70 /80 bpm .my question is will flecainide stop the high bpm and has anyone split a 50 mg flecainide as cardiologist let's me adjust tablets to suit as nothing works and I am reporting to them as and when as the don't seem to be concerned about monitoring me

Paroxysmal atrial fribulation
When I saw my cardiologist he looked at my ECG and told me to stop taking Flec as it was causing more problems than helping my constant AF. Next time I had an ECG he said how much better it looked. I just take a beta blocker now.You say your heart rate goes up to 170bpm when working hard. If you're fairly young I believe that high rate could be normal so long as it comes back down reasonably quick.

My experience with Flecainide:
Only reduces heartbeat by an insignificant amount, as mainly to correct rhythm.
I started on 100mgs/day but it took 200mgs/day to stop the AF.
I took a single dose of flecainide a couple of months ago and it worked well to stop all arrhythmias but it seems to give me such a heavy feeling pulse that I became worried and I haven't taken it since.
What was its effect on you?
Flecainide is likely to be the most effective way to stop or reduce atrial arrhythmias but it carries some small but potentially dangerous risks of its own with a risk of ventricular arrhythmias.
I have decided that it depends on how severe the situation with AF and other arrhythmias is. In my case, as I am retired, I am able to carry on life despite daily ectopic beats and occasional (maybe fortnightly AF). The symptoms I have wax and wane a great deal, too, making me question the need for a strong daily drug like flecainide.

I have Flecainide 100mg and take it as PIP when in PAF, but I find it can have powerful side effects for a day or two after taking it - for me episodes of tachycardia at night - so I prefer not to use it. Instead I practice slow deep breathing (etc.) which can work for me. Having said that if the PAF is obstinate I do take Flec PIP ..
My understanding is that Flecainide deals with the arrhythmia not the heart rate.
Can you try to double check with your cardio maybe through his secretary or cardio nurse about your medications .... ?
Take care

Hi
I was wondering what CCB Diltiazem might do.
As at night BPM H/Rate is normaly 47avg bpm. NIGHT.
But rapid Day H/Rate Metoprolol 186 and pauses at night changed to Bisoprolol 156 no pauses.
I take CCB Diltiazem AM 120 CD and it keeps my bpm in 60s but wears off to allow the 47avg at night.
Just thinking of your predictament.
I had rapid and persistent AF.
Its worth discussing.
No Flec, (diltiazem acts like anti-arrhymic med) no ablation or cardioversion. For me as I have a dilated left atrium.
