ablation, statins and CRP levels

Hi. I’m not on statins and am three weeks post ablation with ectopics and AF creeping in twice to three times a day but only for around five to ten minutes. I am just riding the storms in the hope that In a few weeks this will all calm down and heal. I am very tired in the afternoon even though i haven’t done much. Can anyone say when their heart stopped misbehaving after their ablation? I have PIP but have only had to use once. I recently had a blood test where my CRP was 5 and said high. Do you know how high CRP can be before being dangerous? Should I discuss statins with GP or wait for follow up after ablation with cardiologists?

You always make me smile Bob. I read that fact sheet like a bedtime novel and still not relaxed. I’m hoping in four months I’m not still sitting hear asking questions and life will be wonderful again. It’s just great hearing anything positive Thank you 😊

Fairly common, but definitely report to your medical team what's going on. Some of us are put on anti-arrhythmic medications post ablation to help keep things calm during the healing period.

As to CRP levels, mine were close to yours and three weeks later they were down to .8 which is very low risk. The difference is my doctors increased my Statin dose and I went on a very low-fat anti-inflammatory diet.

I’m not on any statins at all so didn’t know if the five was maybe not excessive.

5 is elevated.

Raised CRP is normal after ablation. Discuss statins with the GP

that’s interesting. Thank you Jim

It can take several weeks for the heart to calm down post ablation. I'd expect things to be better in a week's time but don't be surprised if you get an outbreak close to the end of the 3 months blanking period. Too early in my opinion to consider statins- let your heart settle down first. 5 is not a high rate for your overall cholesterol level (I'm assuming that's what you mean). Mine is a bit higher. It also depends on other factors like blood pressure and blood sugar levels - all of which increase your risk factor. There are plant based supplements you can use to address cholesterol if you're worried and other dietary factors. If I recall, women need slightly higher levels of cholesterol then men (can't remember why) and cholesterol itself isn't intrinsically bad. There's a very clear, short podcast on this topic by a British GP who's also one of our lifestyle medicine pioneers. He's called Dr Ayan Panja and the podcast is Saving Lives in Slow Motion. You'll have to scroll down to find the episodes. He did ont recently on statins and earlier this year explaining about cholesterol.

I am not a medic but have been paying close attention to my CRP levels as part of managing my AF. It is a sign of inflammation so not surprising that it is high after the ablation. The Afib Cure suggests getting it under 1. Mine went from 1.9 to 0.3 through diet and no alcohol. You could ask the medics how soon they would expect it to come down, but probably they will say wait for the blanking period to be over before worrying about it too much.

Thank you. It’s really interesting to read about other people’s experiences. You don’t feel so alone.

for me was 4 or 5 weeks when all started to settle and now about 6-7 months with no sign of AFib - try to relax and give it some time

Hi. Thank you for your reply. Did you get bursts or AF and ectopics too? I will be four weeks this week and I do feel that the episodes are happening less so becoming more relaxed and hopeful.

Oh yeah - 1st week fine then all took off - had several episodes of 160bpm that lasted 4-5 days - never had an episode last more than 12 hours before but before I had ten ablation was having episodes nearly every day. Spent most of Xmas day in A&E …but after a few more weeks it all just settled down - after about 2 months noticed how much better I was feeling - hadn’t realised just how much this had affected my confidence in myself and was making me hold back on doing what I wanted to do - best of luck and above all try to relax and give yourself some time
