TENS machine, AFl / Afib and aches and pains.

Hi, I wonder if anyone uses a TENS machine for hip and let muscle pain if you also have AFl or AFib?

Because of taking blood thinners, most 'normal' painkillers are ruled out because they contain NSAIDs, leaving only really paracetamol for general pain.

Or, if not, what do you use to help moderate 'normal' aches and pains?

Thanks.

Yes. I've used these to help with sciatica . Found them very useful with no unwanted side effects

Hi Jalia

The best for sciatica is:

Lie on your back.

Take one leg and gently ease it over the other and back. It opens up the gap.

Really stoppe ine with this exercise and later acupuncture.

found the Tens massage quite useful, also used Nursmol for a short for pain relief plus Voltarol gel, keep in fridge for best effects.

I would check with your GP as the NHS guidelines are not to use if you have heart problems....... I found this out recently when looking into it for a friend who has hip pain, awaiting surgery.

Thanks Ducky! I just read them and only saw a very general, catch all warning put on to cover all situations of course.

I so wish I could find out if the advice to use blood thinners after one AFl is based on relative or absolute risk. I think it is a disgrace that no one seems to be able to tell me. It makes a HUGE difference.

I so wish I had asked that to the consultant at the time, but I was too overawed by the situation.

Apparently, Voltorol gel is supposed to be quite good with no adverse affects.

I find it so confusing. This is a NSAID I think and have been warned off them. But thank you. :) Maybe topical makes the difference. My GP only said paracetamol or physio. So no use really.

Yes, being topical is supposed to be the difference and a few guys on here use it. If you type Voltarol into the search bar, you'll see previous posts about it. 😊

Yes I regularly use one for lower back pain, as well as at least three sessions a day of ice. All helps and no AF issues.
