I am basically very pleased with the outcome. I no longer need to take Flecainide which bothered my gut with excessive (noisy, embarrassing) wind. I am 82 with other comorbidities: secondary adrenal insufficiency and scoliotic restrictive lung disease requiring O2, 24/7. Dr. Reddy, my surgeon at Mount Sinai, in NY pronounced it a success. We understand there's no guarantee for permanent curing of Afib.
Initially, I had a sore heart for a few weeks which manifested itself if I would overdo. I needed extra sleep. I did have ectopy for awhile which continuously abated over weeks.
I wore the Zio heart monitor for 1 week after the blanking period.. In 3 months another check and 3 months after that the last Zio monitor check. But now I am resuming my exercise program: stationary bike, treadmill, NuStep and Pilates performer. This is all done in small increments with my goal of 30min day.
My O2 sat has improved. Dr. Reddy said that because Afib makes the heart less efficient return to NSR has my heart is beating more efficiently.
If I ever had to do it again I wouldn't hesitate; it only took about 1 1/2 hours. I elected to stay overnight in hospital. My husband is 89 stayed with me.
