pulse field ablation

Hi I had the pulse field ablation at Papworth on 5/2/24 under general anaesthetic. Other than having a very sore heart and groin for around 2/3 hours recovery on the day ward, everything was fine. I am now on the UK research programme with ongoing check ups at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months. Having previously had multiple AF episodes in the weeks leading up to the procedure on a daily basis, I have so far been completely free of any AF symptoms. This procedure is much safer than the previous cryo / thermal method used in the past as it is much more accurate at targeting the area of the heart requiring ablation with minimal risk of damage to the oesophagus.

Nice post Cb99 - good luck. I too would consider pulse field ablation.

Great news Cb. I learned about pulse field ablation from my EP at a public talk he gave. I know he’d love our hospital to purchase the equipment. Wishing you good recovery and long term health.

Keep us posted as hopefully this procedure will become more widely available in due course. And glad you're feeling well!

Were you given the option of pulsed field instead of cryo / thermal? was it a question of which EP? Was it the luck of the draw?

Just the luck of the drawer I believe but it would appear Papworth are rolling this out more and more. I’m 4 days post procedure now and not one single episode of AF after months of experiencing it daily.

I have a vested interest as on the waiting list at Papworth, potentially in May. It will be interesting to see what's on offer, or how I "qualify".
