Magnesium Taurate side effects.

I have taken Magnesium Taurate for year’s, firstly Cardiovascular Research combined and then Magnesium Bisglycinate and taurine separately (due to costs and needing a mortgage to buy the combined). Has anyone taken the Magnesium Taurate from Ethical Nutrition? If so did you notice any side effects? Thanks for any insight.

Are you taking the magnesium on your own or on a doc's recommendation? Because my cardiologist would not recommend magnesium unless my blood levels were already low and he sent in a prescription for a magnesium blood test.

I am taking it on my own and have been for around 10 years. My GP and EP know I take it and is on my records and they are fine with it.

Been taking Mg T from Ethical Nutrition for about 9 months.Cant say I have noticed any side effects. Just started to take Pottasium as well in past month as realised, often AF sufferers deficient in Mg plus K.

Also ensure when I exercise, use electrolyte tablets when drinking water pre and post exercise.

Never used to add salt to my food, believing that it was bad for the heart, but use good quality celtic sea salt now.

i discussed this combo with my Cardiologist and he suggested doing blood work first and yes i was quite low in magnesium and vitd3 and coq10. There is no point taking supplements unless you are deficient. Once your body has excess build up then magnesium can cause some to have irregular heartbeats so maybe get your levels checked.

You say you used to take magnesium taurate from Cardiovascular Research but stopped because of the price. You might be interested that this brand is obtainable at a more affordable price (it’s about £30) from iHerb which is much less than Ethical Nutrition. They are based in USA but don’t let that put you off. Orders are delivered free if you spend £30 and always arrive within the week. Excellent service. I have now ordered from them five times.Take a look.

Thank you. I will look into that.

There is work to show all magnesium is equally well absorbed - of any salt, so the cheapest is the equal of the best. Taurine is, I gather, better taken separately as it needs much higher doses.

I have been taking their magnesium taurate since early October last year and have had no side effects whatsoever and possibly found it beneficial as, maybe by coincidence, I have had reduced palpitations and no AF. I cannot say that it is due to the Taurate as I was only diagnosed in May last year and have only had 4 episodes between March and July of last year. I know AF is very fickle so could strike again anytime but meanwhile I will continue with their magnesium taurate. The company is efficient and helpful and delivery is prompt. Hope that is helpful.

I swapped to Ethical Nutrition Mg Taurate as no fillers. Good service, seems to work. They have brought out another mg supplement, a bit cheaper but I'm sticking to mg taurate.

On the NHS, doctors only measure the amount of magnesium in the blood which does not give an accurate picture of the proper levels. So taking a supplement based on that test is not the best. The gold standard (which isn't used by the NHS to my knowledge), is an EXA test. It checks how much magnesium the body has in the cells. Alternatively, another test is where magnesium is given and then checked how much is excreted by the kidneys after the body absorbs all that it needs. I'm not an expert but have long felt that magnesium deficiency is a key factor in AF.

Yes I have read that as well, basically magnesium in the blood ad a standard test is far from accurate and doesn't give the complete picture

Thank you all. I don’t know if it is the Ethical nutrition ones or pure coincidence. I started taking them about 6 weeks ago and a few days later I just didn’t feel right, felt poorly but hard to explain how. It went on for a few days. I did wonder about the new ones. Stopped them and felt a lot better. 10 days later I tried again and same thing happened, albeit milder. Checking previous ones out the only thing different was the amount of taurine, almost 3 times as much as I had been use to? Surely it can’t be the taurine?

As I say, it might be coincidental and will try again in a week or so.
