Magnesium Taurate recommendation

Could anyone recommend a good brand of Magnesium Taurate? I’m used to buying Tom Oliver from Amazon, but this is no longer available. Ideally I’d like something to take just once a day. . Lots of Amazon reviews have things like “noticed burning taste in mouth after swallowing” and “doesn’t say what strength it is” which don’t inspire much confidence. I’ve also forgotten what the recommended dose is for AF; please remind me if you know it. Neither Boots nor Holland and Barrett appear to sell this any longer.

I buy the Black Swan brand from Ebay. They are normal size tablets and no burning sensation. I know what you mean about the burning sensation as I get that when I swallow my potassium tablet.☹️

I used a cheap and a pricey one from Amazon for several months and found them identical. Neither helped me, sadly, but some claim an effect. Studies show that any form of magnesium works as well as another (or doesn't, as in my case). Buying a pricey technical-looking one might have a useful placebo effect, but it didn't on me.

There is a very cheap taurate on Amazon at the moment (about £7) but I’m a bit suspicious as sometimes these low prices reflect the fact that the sell-by date is impending. I’ve just ordered a Biocare taurate and will probably revert to Tom Oliver if and when it returns.

That’s a very good point - anything is possible online. I should think the product is in essence very long lasting and unlikely to deteriorate though, but the problem is it’s impossible to know these things.

Damn that placebo effect. It never works for me either. And the money I’ve spent on placebos!!

Same here! It's something that amazed me years back when working in the pharmaceutical industry that in many double-blind clinical studies around a third of participants have a placebo response. Pretty weird that.

Yes, it’s interesting. I have enough trouble explaining to some people (in real life) the ‘do nothing option’ is a valid option, and that often it works.

It’s a complex thing to study. I remember once reading that around the same number of people are able to be “hypnotised” (a rather unscientific word, mind you), and I’m sure there’s a link.

hi, just a quick heads up. If you were ok with the Tom Oliver tablets, you can still get Magnesium Taurate by buying direct off their website ( just Google them). Their direct prices are often cheaper than on Amazon, and they seem to have various sales and promotions fairly frequently.

Thanks to you and everyone for their tips and information on this. I’ll have a look at the TO website initially.

Update: I just checked and they are sold out!

Just thought you would like to know that magnesium is back in stock on the Tom Oliver website!

Sorry. I generally do a multi buy offer of 3 bottles of tablets which gives me a long term supply, hence I hadn’t checked the website lately

I read an article in Well+Good that said powders were better than tablets as the Magnesium was better absorbed by the body. wellandgood.com/best-magnes...

I switched to Seeking Health Magnesium Malate Powder that I bought from The Supplement Hub in Sheffield via the WWW. Much better than the tablets I've found.

All the best.

Hi Samazeuilh2, Could I ask if you think mag taurate has really kept down the afib episodes? I take separate mag threonate and recently added 500mg taurine, but I hear a lot of people using mag taurate. Thanks! Diane S.

Hi, it’s difficult to say. I’ve had fewer episodes since I took the magnesium taurate, but I retired at the same time I started it so the effect may be due to the latter (or something else completely). Currently, I’m taking taurate more for ectopics than AF and it has definitely helped. As far as I know magnesium taurate, glycinate or citrate are recommended for the heart. I think that threonate is more for brain health.

Thanks--yes, reducing stress is more important than taurine for afib, I'd say! BTW, metoprolol worked wonders for me getting rid of all ectopics. I'll just keep on taking taurine separately. It has a lot of specific benefits I can use. Good health to you! Diane S.

I’ve been taking a raft of Magnesium - taurate, bisglycinate, algae derivative and recently added in an Iionic liquid from. I’m awash with the ruddy stuff, but sadly none has made any difference to the raging AFib.

A few weeks back I was in A&E after four days of AFib with HR of around 160 and they said they’d give me magnesium. I told them I take masses of it daily in several forms, but they insisted. Within two minutes of them starting the infusion my HR shot up even higher and went even more erratic and I felt really ill. I felt like my face was going to explode. They quickly turned it off and it gradually settled down again after about an hour. “I told you so” came to mind. 😡

Liquid form, easily absorbed ionic magnesium.
