My haemoglobin levels have gone low does anyone have any knowledge if this is due to Edoxaban blood thinners. Is there an alternative to Edoxaban. I’ve had 4 episodes of AF over the past 2 years lasting about 5 hours.
thanks

I know anaemia is a common side effect so would speak to your GP and pharmacist about this
There are so many reasons why the blood can be low in haemoglobin, one, of course, being direct blood loss through various causes and which can be caused by drugs such as anticoagulants, aspirin or arthritis tablets. Your GP will have carried out blood tests on urine and faeces, I would imagine, to check for such blood loss. Other causes can sometimes be ascertained from the blood tests, I think. What does the surgery say?

I have had an extensive blood test and have appointment with haematologist end of April. But will get an appointment with GP as I haven’t had a fences or urine test. Thanks.
I thought those two were standard to check for any blood loss from the kidneys and bladder, or the gastrointestinal tract, which are (I think) the most common sources. It will depend on the results of the blood test since this will show way changes in the haemoglobin or whatever. I believe this kind of thing is not that unusual at all (and I have heard of it in various people over the years) and almost always can be fully resolved.

I would encourage you to see your doctor sooner rather than later. I was on Xarelto after 3 ablations - several years later (almost too late) discovered my hemoglobin was 4.6 -‘and I was severely anemic. Stool makes found blood but it took several other tests, including colonoscopy, endoscopy, endoscopy with microscopic camera, and an enteroscopy, to discover I had arterial venous malformations in my upper small intestines that were bleeding . Six units of blood and 13 days in the hospital, along with medical professionals saying I was very close to bleeding out, and I was able to go home. Took months to recover - not something to fool around with! And I’m no longer, of course, on Xarelto. Don’t mean to scare you - just encourage you to take action immediately!
