Edoxaban side effects

I have had quite bad hip and thigh pain after being on edoxaban for a few weeks which has made walking difficult. I also take Bisoprolol 1.25 but I've been on that since May and on higher doses, so don't think it's that. I stopped the edoxaban for a couple of days and started to ease a bit but restarted yesterday and it's been bad again today. The gp has said its not the edoxaban but I'm not convinced. I can't tolerate this. I've already tried Rivaroxaban and that gave me stomach problems. Has anyone had this side effect with edoxaban and also tingling in the feet?

I was moved from Warfarin to Edoxaban by my GP and stayed on it for some 4 to 6 months, can't remember exactly. The side effects that I got were continuous, quite vile and disturbing nightmares which did nothing for healthy sleep. In the end I got fed up with it, phoned my GP and told her of my experiences, AND, based on these I would not take Edoxaban ever again, nor any of the other NOAC's. Back on Warfarin and life is good once again.

Have you read the paper in the Edoxaban packet to see if your side effects are listed. ?

Your user name suggests that you may be or have been a hiker/rambler/walker ... what you are suggesting sounds more like you have an issue arising from these activities. Have you undertaken any of these activities and had a slip or trip that coincided with starting Edoxaban I wonder ?

Hope you get it sorted.

Thankyou for your reply. I haven't done any hiking for years. I had to stop in 2020 when I had polymyalgia. Was on meds for 3 years for that. Not sure what's going on now, but the gp didn't seem interested. The side effects are not listed in packet but if you look on line they are.

Yes, I have experienced similar having started on Edoxaban 6 months ago, which I would describe as 'stiffness pain'. I have managed to reduce it by exercising more but seems you might be better off going for warfarin.

Let us know how you get on as I may be following the same route.

There are others you can try and you may be able to perhaps try Apixaban perhaps, or as others have said warfarin.

I’ve just stopped warfarin after having to take it for an ablation, though I realise now it gave me stomach problems ( which I was putting down stress after the ablation and the weather) as they seem to have disappeared within a few days of stopping it.

I think it’s trial and error and only by trying other anticoagulants will you know.

Thankyou, yes I think I definitely need to change again.

I'd bet on the Edoxaban. I have the same problem on Apixaban . It seems to make joint pain worse. I discovered this when an over cautious anaesthetist took me off for 8 days before my first hip replacement op. My pain got much better and when I looked back it was the year before when I first started Apixaban that after 8 months on it the hip arthritis was diagnosed. I have since come off it twice for a second hip op and a colonsoscopy and each time there is an improvement. I have also tinkered with the dose and the pain is definitely dose dependent for me. It also gives me digestive issues which again are dose dependent.

Thankyou for your reply. I did think maybe polymyalgia was returning what I had before but this has been different with knees and feet involved as well. Trouble is it's not easy getting gp to change anything.

I don't bother even telling my GP about my disatisfaction. Apixaban is supposed to be the best of the "bans". I tried Pradaxa and it gave me even worse digestive problems and he will not prescribe Warfarin. Warfarin is hardly prescribed here at all. Before the DOACs I was on another vit K antagonist called Préviscan which was pretty bad and gave me horrible leg pain. Plus I could not keep my INR stable.

I was on Edoxaban, and never had any side effects. To decide yourself to stop the drug is not a good idea!!!...Being an anticoagulant it needs careful medical supervision, so you should as you did see your Dr. I doubt the Bisoprolol is causing this either. You need to perhaps start considering some other cause

Just because you had no side effects from Edoxaban does not mean that others will be the same. Most people here who are on DOACs are fine on them. You and they are just lucky and frankly it really annoys me when people like you suggest that that some other cause should be considered. It's gaslighting. Bisoprolol causes all sorts of side effects including leg pain for some people. I know what side effects Apixaban gives me as I was taken off for varying lengths of time by doctors before procedures and I have experimented with the dosage. Stopping and restarting a drug is an accepted way to see if there are side effects .
