Edoxaban and surgery - update

Just thought I would update you all, on the issue I had last week concerning stopping taking edoxaban before a minor operation, as I had a blood clot before being prescribed any anti-coag's 7 years ago, and being"more than your average anxious type" person!!

I ended up having a telephone discussion about the risks with my cardiologist. He felt I should I really commence Edoxaban again on the evening of the operation. With this knowledge, I could confidentially and assertively approach both my consultant and anaesthetist regarding this. It was then decided that I should have a 7 day course of ENOXAPARIN injections before restarting Edoxaban. This has reassured me a great deal.

I just thought this information might be useful to others facing similar. : )

Keep safe, everybody

Good for you. I had a similar experience when on Rivaroxaban. Had a kidney removed and hospital sent me home with 10 day supply of self administered ENOXAPARIN. All OK so must have worked.

I am pleased you were taken seriously. I had to stop warfarin for a colonoscopy and the nurse airily told me that he had checked with the doctor (who I never met) and 'I would be fine'. Eventually I was given bridging injections because I insisted.
