AV Node Ablation and Medication

A few days ago I posted a query concerning the procedure re medication following an AV node abalation because, having made enquiries, I couldn't get a definitive answer as to what should be happening about coming off or reducing Sotalol. I had an appointment with the Pacemaker Clinic for last Friday, so on Thursday I phoned the Cardiology Nurses again (I'd phoned them several days previously but the person I spoke to didn't know the answer and said they would get back to me but didn't). This time I managed to speak to a Nurse who was much more clued up and she told me that when I came for my PM appointment I should ask them about the medication and then ask if they would speak to the Registrar or if not she would be around and to get them to find her. They did the latter and so she went to see the Registrar. He said that I could come off the Sotalol immediately. As I have been taking a hefty dose for some long while I was a bit hesitant about that and said I would rather come off gradually (which I had actually started doing) and the Nurse agreed with me that she would rather do it that way. So, that is what I am now doing. My pacemaker has been reduced to 70 bpm and at the beginning of December will be reduced to 60 bpm; so I feel I'm making some progress now. Annoyingly I've been zonked by a horrible virus, which seems quite prevalent right now and so I can't tell whether I feel any better!

So, thank you again to all those who replied to my original post - I just thought I would give you an update. I feel much happier now knowing I can come off the Sotalol and just hope and pray I don't feel any AF going on 'upstairs'. At least now I know I can't have another dreadful AF attack, which for me always turned into tachycardia and made me feel absolutely terrible, and frightened.

Thanks all and keep well (tempted to say - keep regular!) Tricia x

Good morning Tricia239, I am off to Bristol for my anual pacemaker check, 5pm appointment so I think a train journey due to roadworks between Weston and Bristol.

Have recently been aware that without warning I suddenly start to breath more deeply and am not sure why, a question for tonight!!

I do get slightly out of breath when climbing an incline, especially on the golf course, but does not cause any issues.

The tablet which caused most symptoms was Bisoprolol, now off it and feel generally much better.

This getting older does'nt help either !!!!!!

You’ve got to have the bad ones to appreciate the good ones! Personally I consider it a win if I even hit the ball! Absolutely no eye - hand coordination! Anyway, you’ve got a good day for it today, so enjoy.
