AV Node ablation and still being in AF

Hello everyone

I think I may have not been on this forum for ages

Question:

After having AV node ablation the heart will still experience AF - does the damage continue to the heart even though you cannot feel the AF

I have had 4 normal ablations but have not worked, I have Heart failure because of this, also I have some valve problems so that has not helped

I am in permanent AF and A Flutter so double whammy

I can feel this more and more even though my medication has tripled

I have been talking to my consultant for a number of years about AV node ablation

I do have a pacemaker as my heart also has sinus pauses and bradycardia

I am very scared tearful about AV node ablation even though I think I will feel a bit better

However I would like to know if damage still be done to the heart

Thank you all

hello, there are a few members on here have had AV node ablation and are pleased they did, I do hope they respond which I am sure will give you support.

I see you are in the UK, I wonder if you have considered a hybrid procedure (mini maze for your afib and ablation for the flutter). It’s not readily available everywhere in the UK so it’s a bit of a postcode lottery I am afraid but it may be an alternative to the AV node ablation.

Yes, I would also like to know if after a P and A the AF could still damage your heart. My previous untreated AF caused Dilated Cardiomyopathy. I wouldn't want that to happen again.

I've just asked a very similar question on the forum and I hope we get an answer we can live with. I wish you all the best and God bless you.

Did you get any replies as to whether the AF would still damage heart after an AV node ablation?
