The hospital just rang to say they have had to cancel my appointment as equipment is not available that day. Unfortunately I cancelled all our holiday bookings just hours before!! so I’m now stuck with no ablation and no holiday. At least I know that I must be quite high up on the waiting list. And I got the money back from car hire etc so we can book ourselves some nice treats in the coming weeks. I don’t think disappointment quite says it all.

So sorry to hear this Rainfern. Such a shame they didn't check that their equipment was available before ringing you and booking you in.......!! 😤 So unfair. Sending u the biggest hugs for the double loss... 😢😢
I think a treat is in order of some sort. Hope you don't have to wait much longer. ❤️ 🤞🤞🤞
I just hope you are at the very top of their list and next up.... Least they could do tbh..... I'd be tempted to explain & hope they take pity on you. Xx
Thanks waveylines. A nurse called to explain how a specialist piece of equipment which somehow does an internal echocardiogram and explores the internal landscape for clots etc is not available that day. However, ward sister will ring tomorrow and maybe fix a new date. I did lay things on a bit thick 😢😤
The private and NHS cardio teams work very closely together here, it’s fascinating. So, the private sector has been bought in to relieve NHS waiting lists but are having to borrow equipment from the NHS in order to keep the show on the road! What I do know is that every EP I’ve met from both these teams, and every nurse, are entirely committed to patient care, despite the stress they’re all under. And a hiccup with appointments won’t shake my trust. However, I just hope they don’t drop the special equipment while in transit between hospitals- just across the road from one another 🤪
Aww am so glad to hear this. I hope your appointment is very soon and then you will not feel so bad about cancelling your much looked forward to holiday.Yikes to the moving of equipment & 🤞🤞🤞
Funny how private care doesn't have the necessary equipment.... Thry will be making plenty off the NHS... Lol. But the main thing is your seen asap. Hugs xx
To someone like me who have lived in a country for years which has strict division between private and public hospitals (although the government is trying to change that by bringing in a NI Act). I find it really strange that a private hospital , does not have all the equipment - they make so much money. I was at our local one yesterday for an appointment with my Cardio who has his rooms there (all private specialists have their suites in private hospitals). They have these 'pause' areas for people to wait either for friends or waiting to fill in admission forms etc. and I saw they had new leather fully upholstered lounge suites in them! The specialist has all his own equip - yesterday I had an echo, an as well as the usual ECG,in his rooms, and if CTs or MIRs are needed, the private Radiologists practice which does all of these things is on the same floor. They have 8 fully equipped theatres, oncology, maternity and paediatric units, and are completely independent of the government hospitals. I don't get it . Either you are public or private in this day and age. I was 5 when the NHS was born and my mother benefitted by having a gall bladder operation at our nearest large hospital !
Not a medical term, but Bums springs to mind which is probably more moderate than what you were thinking when they gave you the news. Look on the positive side, it will be done soon and once you are back on your feet, which won’t be too long, not much, if any money lost so maybe a late break is on the horizon 👍
I had a call today to say our holiday coach has downgraded as the one we booked to go to Italy ' has broken down' 3 days before travelling.
Unacceptable as the one we booked is disabled friendly for hubby
Offered us 350 quid the difference between the 2 ,if we don't accept, lose the holiday and 2,000 for our significant holiday ( 40 years wed 60th birthdays, put off due to lockdown, covid restrictions, my ablation . Booked 2020!)
Hope you win though Wilson. Why does everything have to be such a battle? Unreasonable of them as they will know your husband has a disability and the coach replacement is not suitable. So sorry. Hope you get it sorted ASAP. 🤞🤞🤞
Thank you. Citizens Advice have been brilliant , sent off my response based on their guidance ,citing 2018 regulations regarding ' significant change to holiday 'Recorded delivery. Shall not let it go. Thank you xxx
Oh I am sorry. Yes, it is a big disappointment all round and no holiday to boot now either. Glad you are being positive and as you say you must be high up on the list. I guess there’s always the chance the piece of equipment might just happen to be available after all and you’ll get another call later? x
Hi sorry to hear this it must be doubly disappointing for you. Can I ask please if you had holiday insurance while on a waiting list and if so who with. The reason being my husband couldn’t get insurance when he was on the list for his ablation which looks like hasn’t worked and will probably have to have another.
Hi Oak - sorry to hear about your insurance problem. It does seem quite normal for people to need a second ablation and I know insurance can be tricky when awaiting medical procedures. I didn’t have insurance as we were travelling within UK, but it is a regular discussion here. I would put the question to the forum as people seem to know of companies that are AF friendly, and also call the AF Association helpline - I believe they have a list of potential insurers.
Good luck, I shall need the same answers next year when I plan a holiday in Greece!
Really sorry , that’s so tough. Have you considered ringing the waiting list coordinator? We had a holiday booked for my ablation date, so I rang the number given on the letter to ask how much longer I would be waiting if I didn’t accept this date. She offered several dates in the next month, was happy to let me choose my own EP etc. Perhaps it would be worth a phone call? X
Oh no! That's a double whammy isn't it? So sorry that this happened to you. Goodness, our poor NHS. And how pragmatic of you to be planning some treats. Better times to come.
Thank you Singwell. Yes, let’s hope we get some serious investment in the NHS soon and a management on the side of free healthcare at the point of delivery! Thanks for your kind words 😊
That’s brilliant, so pleased it all went well. We’re enjoying some long walks and great to be out of the southern heat and humidity. Fife skies - nothing like them! Take it easy and good recovery 😀
