I recently had a molar removed.I needed a couple of stitches. I was advised to stop Rivaroxaban the night previous to the extraction and also on the night of the extraction. All good so far and went back on Rivaroxaban. Then four days post extraction I had some heavy bleeding which resulted in my returning to the surgery. They removed the stitches bleeding stopped so all good. I was wondering if anyone else on anticoagulants have had stitches which proved problematic
Thanks

You might find the NICE guidelines for all anticoagulants helpful, click on the link below then click on “Scenario Rivaroxaban” in the management section. It’s also important to take Rivaroxaban with a full fat meal rather than just a snack as this improves its effectiveness.
Hello, I had a tooth out and stopped as you did but only problem was a dry socket. I’ve had other surgeries Pacemaker and ablation and not had problems. My main problem with Rivaroxaban is that I don’t always eat a full meal at the same time. Sometimes eat at lunchtime and don’t eat again until a snack much later. Also I’ve been unwell and not fancied proper meals. Like lots of us I’ve been asked to change to edoxoban which I am accepting as it may prove easier for me. I asked them to write on my notes that they would change it back if I had side effects.
Thanks for your reply. Did you get stitches when your pacemaker was fitted ? I have been on Rivaroxaban for years with no issues. However on this occasion the stitches seemed to cause the wound to start bleeding a few days after extraction. I was considering changing to another NOAC but I think the body processes them all in a similar way.
