cryoablation

Back again with an old problem. Had my cryoablation 15 months ago and went through the usual recovery with the help of all you nice folks. So I need some more help. The past 3 weeks my flutters have been returning. I've been stressed lately and I'm sure that helped to start them. So I went on Klor-con potassium which helped greatly. I can't stay on it long because I get jittery. But now It doesn't help as good as it did and every time I eat, my heart flips go crazy. Now I'm afraid to eat at all. So I increased my metroprolol and ativan to keep calm. I have a history of reflux and been on meds for that for over 40 years. Is my ablation failing? This is how my afib began before. Any help would be great.

Hi - it does seems that you have a long term gastric problem and I would imagine the Cryoablation is therefore really aggravated your autonomic system and so your heart is reacting.

In your shoes I would seek out a Lifestyle Doctor and/or nutritionist and work holistically rather than tinker around with individual symptoms. Stress will be the number 1 antagonist for heart so learning to calm yourself, without meds, really helps - I am sure you will know all of the suggestions by now - breath work, guided meditations, yoga, tapping, singing - anything that gives biological feedback to soothe the autonomic system. It takes practice and needs to become a daily habit for it to help long term.

I also found one of the best complimentary therapies for healing and soothing autonomic is sacrocranial therapy but everyone is different and things like Bowen work in a similar way. It’s all about teaching the body to heal and developing a daily practice to support that.

I used to do a fair amount of cold water immersion, not always intentionally as I was a dinghy sailor, but the benefits of cold water immersion are wonderful but these days I just finish my shower with a cool-cold blast, wakens the senses and makes you feel alive immediately and I always have a much better day. Had I been younger I might have adopted the Win Hoff lifestyle - I did say maybe……. My friend took up daily wild swimming and free style diving aged 62 - she’s amazing.

Was Klor-con prescribed by a doctor? If so I would imagine that your diet is lacking in electrolytes and that may be causing your heart flutters, along with the stress and inflammatory response of your digestion. What you eat and when you eat and how you eat will play a huge part but needs in depth investigation by an experienced and knowledgeable dual trained doctor, I would suggest. Nutrition is the basics of health but unfortunately medical doctors do not receive training in nutrition and so rely upon pharmaceuticals- which the body finds difficult to process and absorb, not recognising drugs as nutrition.

One thing I found helped a lot, when I had a lot of gastric issues, was preparing my own plant based smoothies with foods high in electrolytes and taking those in small amounts during the day and forget about eating meals for a 7-14 days. I had some food supplements such as Spirolina and Root Matcha added favourite recipe would be:-

Cucumber, Avacado, Chia seeds, Banana, Pineapple, kale or spinach, teaspoon of Spirolina & Matcha, grated fresh ginger, quarter lemon - peeled, small glass of apple juice or liquidised melon and water or ice.

Develop your own favourite recipes. Homemade soups work well also but stay off solid foods to see if it settles down and very gradually add one food at a time.

Whatever you do, avoid white bread, biscuits, cakes and pastries.

Hope some of that helps.

I’ve had issues with eating then belching and anxiety, flutter. My wife suggested I start probiotics which can help balance out gut health. So far after a 3 weeks on probiotics I can honestly say I’m feeling less anxious after eating and last couple of days nearly no belching. I also try to eat dinner before 6.30 and sit for 20-30 mins after eating which is advice I’ve learnt on this great forum
