As a former patient of Sanjay Gupta I take the recommended daily Magnesium Taurate tablet (Cardiovascular Research 125mgs per tablet) for AF and palpitations.
Unfortunately I am currently struggling to buy this - I usually get it from Amazon but for some reasons it’s not currently available, I did find it on other websites but at extortionate prices.
Instead I bought an alternative brand (British Vitamins) which I was surprised to find is 625mgs per tablet and I’m a little concerned this may be far too much?
I would be really grateful for people’s thoughts?

I found the local UK price of Cardiovascular Research Mg Taurate was getting very high. I now buy from LuckyVitamin in the USA. It takes about 10 days for delivery but quite a bit cheaper. That said, I see its out of stock at the moment.
Just to be clear, The Cardiovascular Research Magnesium taurate capsules (made in USA) have 125mg of Magnesium taurate. They do NOT contain 125mg of elemental magnesium. The various website descriptions are clear. The amount of elemental magnesium per capsule is approx 11mg.
British Vitamins mega Magnesium contain 114mg of elemental magnesium in various salt forms.
I doubt you'll find any difference between brands, and if you do, it must be a placebo effect (useful though!). I tried various kinds for a long period with no effect whatsoever and found, on reading, that there's no evidence at all that oral magnesium helps arrhythmias, despite the internet recommendations, videos and the often high prices.
I suspect that magnesium taurate tablets are all made in the same, or very few factories, worldwide and are all, essentially, identical.
Magnesium taurate is one of the most expensive forms and you are stuck with the ratio of magnesium and taurine in each tablet. I take magnesium biglycinate and taurine separately. This works out cheaper and has allowed me to double the dose of taurine I am taking.
As far as afib is concerned I am not sure. Despite taking magnesium for a few years my afib took a turn for the worse with more frequent episodes in 2020 ( I'm blaming the pandemic!) . This year I had 6 episodes in the first 6 months. I put my taurine up to 1000mg a day and it's settled down a bit with only 3 episodes since July and two of them were overindulgence with food on holiday . The magnesium has helped with anxiety. I no longer get panic attacks and the afib episodes don't seem as bad symptomwise. Maybe that's because I've just got used to them. Also it could be due to less stress. At the end of 2021 we lost the ability to eat out due to not having been vaccinated and I worried about what other sanctions we might have to face . Then in spring this year our cat developed cancer and died - that was very stressful. But I still think the magnesium helps with anxiety.
