For great information as to why and how much and how long- answers to your question. Look no further than to Dr John Campbell on these pages. He has produced several YouTube videos explaining Vitd. I hope this will help. Search on his name and you should find one with Vit d in the title.

I took D3 1000 a day for quite some time only to be found deficient in a blood test, GP said double the dose with the caveat that it can take 12 - 13 weeks to take effect. Don't know what meds you take but have a look at Co Q 10 as I know people on statins that take it to relieve the leg pain they suffer

You need to get your 25 OH D levels tested. If low, then 1000 units is way to low and you probably need a high loading dose to get your levels up quickly. This video is excellent. youtu.be/3inQ9C1yqBY
