Hi everyone, have just started an AF bout with ectopic heartbeats. I took 100mg this morning, I usually take another 100mg at night. Is it ok to take 200mg now. I know I can take up to 300mg but can I take 200mg together? Thanks

I'd like to say, yes, take another 50 now, wait an hour and take another 50 if still in afib BUT Flecainide is a powerful drug so it's important to follow your doctor's instructions with what would be a Pill in Pocket dose on top of your scheduled dose.

Yes, the literature says you can take up to 300mg a day, but that doesn't mean all of us can. In my case, I'm only allowed 200 mg in 24 hours, which would be my 50mg scheduled dose twice a day and then an additional 100 mg in two 50mg incremental doses should I go into afib. Since your doctor knows your medical history and how functional sound your heart is, they would be best to advise you.

Absolute max is 300mg in any 24hour period. I would not go against your doctors instructions. Try the slow deep breathing exercise we promote. Less that six breaths a minute. diaphragmic breathing for at least five minutes. That will stop any ectopics if you do it right.

The other thing is you didn't mention anything about being on an AV nodal blocker like bisoprolol or a calcium channel blocker. That could also factor into the decision on how much your doctor will allow.

How are you doing? I think the amount of Flecainide we can tolerate is individual - our body mass, age and other medical factors all impact. I'm guessing if you DID take the 200 that you sensibly did not take more yesterday.

I'd also be concerned about you not taking an AV node blocker but since you take Flecainide regularly perhaps you just didn't say?

In any case this is one for your EP or cardiologist- check it out after the weekend.

Hi there, the extra flecanide is my pill in the pocket. I did take it but later on last night. Hearts still racing. I usually take the extra in halves with my usual dosage. I take verapamil as well. Been quite good for quite a time now. I don’t know what has started this episode off. Been a bit naughty with my diet but I am in such a lot of pain with this Trochanteric Pain Syndrome that I have been feeling a pit peeed off!!! Never mind will see what today brings. Thanks. Xx

May things improve for you. Maddening that our AF often kicks off over the weekend isn't it?

You are right, I’m just going to dip my face in cold water give the old vagal nerve a shock. Anything is worth a try. Have a good day. X
