Just to be clear I am not a medical person, but in relation to your second question the many various 'experts' I have heard on the media have all been unanimous in that this Pneumonia jab from GP will have no impact on the progression of the virus in someone who is infected as it is a different strain. Not good news I know.
Apparently the pneumonia caused by covid19 is viral not bacterial. I suppose the thought could be that it may stop a secondary bacterial infection. Don’t forget the pneumonia jab can help stop sepsis and meningitis too.
The pneumonia jab will protect you from the pneumonia going around at the time the jab was brought out is how I understand it and probably some that they envisaged would be going around. Same as the flu jab its the ones they know and some of the mutations they think might come up in that year. Obviously more complicated than just that. No one envisaged this so there is, as yet, no vaccination against Covid 19 and any vaccinations we have had will have no impact on this virus.
Don't know about that. I think the last time I had the pneumonia injection was about 2015 same time as my wife and her Respiratory consultant said that people such as her should have one every 10 years due to their lung conditions. However, a new vaccination may have been found that does last for life which will be brilliant. No help with Covid 19 though or with any form of Viral pneumonia which my Aunt died of a few years ago despite having had the pneumonia vaccination.
Jeanjeannie that is far and away the most helpful and informative description of the virus and how to avoid and combat it that I have seen anywhere. I will be sharing it with everyone I know. Thank you, more than I can say, for posting it.
I am not a medic but I did hear from a dr on the radio that it won’t stop you getting pneumonia but it will help with the second stage of the pneumonia. Not sure if that is true or not, so much information about and how much is true, I have no idea 💡
Hi quanglewangle there are over 100 types of pneumonia apparently and the pneumonia jab protects from 28, according to Google. I had a terrible chest infection in the summer requiring several courses of antibiotics and a chest Xray to check on heart and lungs. It did clear eventually and I am now wondering if I hadn't had the pneumonia jab if things might have got a lot worse. So many elderly people and younger of course succumb to pneumonia after chest infections that getting the jab is only common sense. Of course Covid 19 isn't of the influenza family so that jab won't help. It does what they call a some kind of storm on the vital organs. I don't know if its effects on the lungs are similar to pneumonia or as I've heard said they get dried out. An interesting post giving us lots to think about.
So - while the jab won't affect COVID19 it may help with other bacterial and secondary infections.
Meanwhile we should all continue to be sensible and follow the latest advice.
Sadly our GP has the bug so because we are in the middle of a lot of sheep country there is no surgery for miles in any direction..... Isolation squared!!!
Good luck everyone - I'm off to see what comes out of the freezer today - lucky dip!!!
