I'm guessing one is a noun (taurine) and one an adverb? So taurine is the chemical but xxx taurate is xxx with taurine mixed. Like carbon and carbonate.

I have posted this before

Magnesium Taurate: Magnesium and taurine share several similar actions

However, because it is difficult to find a 100% pure, fully-reacted magnesium taurate, a separate taurine supplement is often required in addition to magnesium

I found a magnesium taurine that was quite cheap, on Amazon. It was cheaper than magnesium taurate products. As it happens I ordered a mag. taurate but wondered if taurine was as good as taurate. Still don't know.

They appear to be the same as Bob pointed out.

Magnesium Taurate is a combination of the mineral magnesium and the amino acid taurine, and is designed to help ensure heart health.

Taurine

The most abundant free amino acid to be found in the blood of all mammals, taurine is also concentrated within the heart where it regulates the beating. It is now known to stabilize membranes, lower blood pressure, and stabilize heart rate (antiarrhythmic).

This is one of the recommended Mag. Taurate

Magnesium (as magnesium taurate) 125 mg @ 23c per capsule

This is a cheaper supply

Magnesium (as Magnesium Taurate) 200 mg @ 16c per capsule

Information I have gathered says its nearly impossible to have a capsule with

200mg without having Mag. Oxide included or being horse size capsules.

Taurine is a thing on its own, whereas taurate is part of a thing... i.e. taurine is a stand alone element and taurate is where its combined with magnesium (or something else) to form a separate compound. I take magnesium taurate as that's the one that has shown some success with afib in a research study mentioned by Sanjay Gupta. My assumption (from my 1968 A-level chemistry and biology...) is that the body will be able to break down and assimilate both magnesium and taurine from the magnesium taurate.

For info, I take a mag taurate made by Swanson which I get through Amazon (no affilliation, or even respect...). Seems to be best for price and origins as far as I can see, but there are others on the market. Works well for me as a supplement but obviously not a miracle cure.
