MAGNESIUM
If you are concerned that your magnesium is low - and it begs the question why? - have you tried asking your GP for a test? If you have a raft of 'low magnesium' symptoms, why wouldn't the GP check this for you?
NHS are only concerned with serum Magnesium levels - testing cell magnesium levels is a more complicated process the test which is required is done on a red blood cell test - which has to be done privately. Naturopaths will advise but the blood needs to be taken usually at the GO practice - for which you will normally pay also.
Difficult to get my GP interested in this type of check...implies worrying too much and that organ function test eg kidneys heart and liver function are ok so don't worry he says?
Ditto with my GP.
I will have a look at Biolab cant get it done by GP they have stopped doing bloods at our surgery I would have to go to local hospital He doesn't see the point in magnesium testing
I hope they will become more aware of it in the future.
I have seen some of his videos on youtube interesting stuff. my husband is convinced AF is a cellular condition I just wish they would find a cure for it.

For those in the UK, this site could be useful.
There is a link at the bottom about obtaining tests.

Part 1 is first. Click on the other parts to see the whole article. Four tests are listed with the EXA test apparently being the best.
My GP in Canada says he can only order the magnesium serum test. He does not know about other tests.
Nutrition is not taught in medical school so they very rarely know anything about levels of trace elements at the cellular level - unless they specialise in anaesthesia.
Most doctors will tell you that taking magnesium is useless because it is not retained in the body - what they mean is that it is not retained in the serum because the body ensures that trace elements in serum are maintained at specific levels so the body will do all it can to clear excess magnesium from serum, that it is why it is so hard to get an oral magnesium supplement which is absorbed and why it is often better absorbed through the skin in an oil.
My understanding is that the only time magnesium is administered in hospital is if a patient were crashing - then it would be administered by IV and can have a miraculous effect - but it would only be visible in the serum for approx 20 mins.
Naturopaths have a completely different working model so therefore tend to be better informed on this subject.
Dr Myhill has had several complaints to the BMA against her for putting forward her theories and no longer works in the NHS, however she does have a thriving private practice.
Whilst I agree with and practice the theories of 'leaky gut' through eating 'clean' and healthy, varied diet, I don't see Magnesium as the 'cure all' it can sometimes be portrayed as - for me - it would be a very dangerous supplement to mess with and one contra-indicated for people with my condition, which Dr Myhill emphasises in her book on Chronic Fatigue Disease, which she seems to specialise in,
Thank you
