Had my ablation!!!

I am home safe and sound and so pleased I was brave enough to go through with it! I even prayed the night before that we would get snowed in.

The whole procedure was calm and I was really well sedated, the only thing I felt was the brain freeze which lasted for seconds. My chest and throat are a bit sore and I feel a little breathless but it's the tiredness I feel. They kept me in overnight to run more tests to be on the safe side. Dr Lang advised me that he is confident that it has worked 75-80% and has advised me to stay on my medication for another month for the heart to heal. I got all four pulmenory chambers done.

Hopefully it's onwards and up now I am going to rest and rest for the first week then do gentle waking the 2nd week I don't want to undo all there hard work.

Many thanks for all the support.

Take care

Laura x

Hi Bobd yes I am going to rest and I always drink loads and loads of water. I am just glad I have went ahead and got it done. I am sore round my chest and my throat and a little breathless but that will get better in time.

So pleased to hear that all went well for you. Make sure you get a lot of rest now for a few weeks.

Now, was it really as bad as you thought it was going to be? I know afterwards I've always thought how easy the whole process was.

Best wishes.

Jean

I'm trying to find the courage to have an ablation and your post has somewhat calmed me. All the best to you and positive thoughts your way for good healing xx

Hi Aqua_1 go for it! the thought and the build up towards it was certainly more scary than the actual procedure itself. I am so glad I joined this forum as I think I would of chickened out of doing it, if it had not been for the information and support of the people on this forum. The staff at the hospital where just fantastic and kept me calm. Thank you for your well wishes. X

Hi - it was absolutely fine. I wish you the very best of luck tomorrow. My chest is a bit tender and I can't take a right full breath but that will fade in time. Still feel groggy today but no wonder with all the medication. You will be grand. Let me know how you get on. X

Hi Gincalpe, Thank you for your well wishes. I am going to follow the advice of the fact sheets on recovery in fact I printed them off and gave a copy to my husband! Those fact sheets are like my bible at the moment and I am following them to the rule. So I will be parked up on the couch doing my knitting and snoozing lol. Laura xx

Well done, keep us posted on your progress. I am particularly interested as I am have Dr Lang doing my ablation on 5 March at the ERI. Could you tell me what brain freeze is please so that I know what to expect.

HI Shcldavies- Dr Lang is lovely he really puts you at ease all the nurses and doctors on that ward are just lovely. You will be really in safe hands he explains the whole procedure to you and answers any questions you may have. I had cyroablation which means they freeze the areas of the heart where the rogue signals are coming from, the brain freeze is like when you eat an ice cream too quick it lasts for seconds so no need to worry it's not painful as such as you are heavily sedated. You really will be in safe hands.
