Firstly thank you for all your words of encouragement and support for my ablation on Sunday,it helped a lot. I had a cryoablation with heavy sedation and was in the lab for about 2 hours. When I came round I didn't feel too bad and have only suffered some achiness and my groin is not painful at all. I was in sinus when I woke up this morning but after I came home today I felt myself go back into AF. I had gone for a rest and went to sleep on my left side. It's disappointing that AF has reoccurred but the EP did say this may happen, nonetheless I hoped for more time in SR. I know it is early days and the healing has only just started but I was in persistent AF for the past 7 months.
Is there a chance I will revert naturally?
Thanks,
Stuart

I haven't had an ablation but everyone says you don't count early early AF I hope you regain NSR soon It must have been straightforward from the time you mention so that's a good sign- obviously not loads of extra areas to deal with
Hi Stuart, yes, every chance it will revert naturally, but if it doesn't within, say 24 hours, contact the Arrythmia nurse as there are things they can do to help get you back into rhythm, such as pill in pocket (often Flecainide) or a cardioversion. Try not to worry because added stress is not helpful.....so easy to say I know from my own experience!!! Maybe some slow, deep breathing might help too.......hope you will be OK by the morning.....John
All sorts of thongs can happen in the next three months as I am sure they will have told you but contact your Arrhythmia nurse asap as they may wish to cardiovert you.
It reminds me of a terrible story about a man in the rain forest with gippy tummy. He went to the local shamen who gave him a long thin piece of leather soaked in some horrid liquid to suck on saying if not better by the time he had finished chewing on the leather he was to go back. (you are going to love this ) When it hadn't and he did., the shamen looked at him and said --- wait for it----." You mean the thong is ended but the malady lingers on. "
Thongs are probably not the best thing to be thinking about after an ablation😳
I had 2 AF events after Number 2 ablation - one 2 weeks after the other 3 months after. The nurse told me it can take 1 year to settle. It's disappointing but let hope it will settle.
Thanks Kate, did you revert naturally or require intervention?
A good question because in hindsight I wondered if it might have done anyway however on both occasions I have had a pill in pocket dose 100mg of Flecanide. On both occasions I also went to sleep (up to 2 hours) in the chair sat up and woke with it gone. I guess max time 3-4 hours Prior to this I didn't go to sleep with events but now its clear my body wants to and as I want to avoid any visits to hospital I do stay calm. Last week I had a 'in between event' BP shot up and pulse but not as high as normal. I tried to get an ecg done at time but failed so I went home and because things were settling I sat down - went to sleep for 2 hours (no pill) and woke all settled. It'm 5 months down from Number 2 but still learning to be hopeful and not assume there are not improvements. I hope you are the same. Fingers crossed and lots of hope anyway.
I had many episodes and they reverted by themselves. However they never lasted more thay 5 or 6 hours. It took 5 months to settle down and am AF free for nearly 4 years. 🤞🍀
Hi, I had my ablation last Friday, all was well until today, had an episode that lasted about 3 hours, luckily it settled on its own. I was really worried but calmed myself down and had a little doze which helped. I hope you feel better soon. Take care.
I had an ablation just over 3 months ago. About a week after the op my heart flipped from NSR to persistent AF and stayed there up until I had a Cardioversion (six weeks).
Since then I have stayed in NSR (eight weeks and counting - fingers crossed). Only drugs I take are Rivaroxiban and Bisoprolol (2.5mg).
My point being try not to worry if you are in AF so soon post op. It's very early days in your recovery and things can change quickly.
Thanks for the reply Nick. It's encouraging that someone else in a similar situation has come out the other side so to speak and is now in NSR. I'm due to see my EP in 10 days time, so will be interested in what he suggests is my next step.
