Liver Function and Bisoprolol.

I am in permanent AF and it does seem reasonably well controlled with 7.5mg of bisoprolol and a pacemaker. My blood test results for liver function have been relatively normal but for raised tryglicerides for which I am prescribed Pravastatin and Omacor concentrated fish oil tables. Liver function tests show my Serum alanine aminotransferase levels have been consistenly high. Recently my Bisoprolol was increased form 3.75 mg to the 7.5 m,g. and simultaneously my alanine levels have shot up to more than twice the recommended levels to over 100 U/L I am also now worried about my triglycerides as the NHS has, in its wisdom, withdrawn Omacor from the drugs cardiologists can prescribe. I have a fairly useless and disinterested GP whose answer is to brush aside any concerns rather than try and sort them out. Has anyone else had problems with Liver function with Bisoprolol? I also take Metformin for type two diabetes, 150mg of thryroxine, Contiflo tablets for urinary flow problems,and Telmasartin for blood pressure control none of these dosages have changed recently, only the Bisoprolol.

I'm not clear why the bisoprolol was increased so much? It does seem quite a co incidence that as the dose was raised,so did your tri G! Could you approach another GP at your surgery,or perhaps better still,whoever increased it? Best wishes x

Could be the statin that has put up the liver enzymes.

I’ve got Af and my bisoprolol was doubled on the 9 Feb then further increased shortly after that. All at the same time that a hives rash appeared and my liver function tests started climbing . I’m suspicious too! I’ll be talking to the Dr. Good luck.
