Experiences with

Omacor

(Metformin, bisoprolol, ramapril, bezofibrate, alogliptin, ezetimbe, omacor, warfarin)

because I suffer from abnormally high triglycerides the past 10 years or so I have been prescribed a daily dose of Omacor. By courtesy of NICE my GP has now refused to prescribe these capsules any more so I have to buy them myself at £50 a time (compared to £28 that it cost the NHS).

I have been taking high strength Omacor capsules for a decade having been prescribed them on the NHS by my cardiologist for chronic high tryglycerides . Now the inappropriately named NICE has prohibited them and I've been told if I want them I'll have to buy them at £600 a year.

My blood test results for liver function have been relatively normal but for raised tryglicerides for which I am prescribed Pravastatin and Omacor concentrated fish oil tables. Liver function tests show my Serum alanine aminotransferase levels have been consistenly high.

Post failed stent causing MI and CABG, I take lipitor 20mg, bisoproplol, clopidogrel, omacor and ranitidine daily. Last blood tests revealed liver gamma at 130, (should be below 70). I have overall cholesterol of 2.8 (low), normal BMI, low BP, do not drink alcohol and other liver enzymes normal.

I wondered if anyone else was familiar with Omacor or omega 3 supplements. PS ~ It doesn't make you any cleverer.

I can't tolerate statins so my doc has started me on Omacor.. does anyone know if they are any good Thanks Suzanne
