Bisoprolol and LFT's

Two recent LFT's have shown that various of my liver enzymes have rocketed to unacceptable levels and I am now to undergo a liver scan. All this has coincided with an increase in my Bisoprolol dosage from 3.75 to 7.5 daily. Has anyone else suffered from liver problems on this drug?

Not had these symptoms using bisoprolol re liver, but recent increase has caused me to feel extremely tired by mid day. I had similarities with Sotalol when increases were made. Discuss this with your GP, who may decrease dosage or offer another option. Also check other medications you are taking to see if they are still working to your advantage. Check with your pharmacist to review your medications, you can explain your concerns to him or her, and they will refer you to your GP if needs be.you are entitled to make an appointment with your pharmacist once a year. I am due now to do just that.

To get an appointment in less than a month with GP in England would be a miracle!

I take 5mg Bisoprolol each morning and have done for 3.6 years. I have had no problems with my liver. Only downside of bisop for me is tiredness, which is a small price to pay for keeping my AF at bay. I have sick sinus syndrome and a pacemaker helps my heart rate from going too slowly. I hope you feel better soon and your scan gives positive results for you.

Best wishes

Like you, CarolI ,take 5mgs of bisoprolol a day but I split the dose to 2.5 in the the morning after breakfast and 2.5 at bedtime. It took me a long time to get used to this drug but now I feel better than I have for many years. I also take digoxin plus aspirin and a few other pills, it seems to work for me and keeps my heart from going too slowly. I haven't noticed anything wrong with my liver. Hope all goes well with you , prahsr123.

Kidney function and chest were mentioned to me as potiential problems (having had renal stones twice and asthma as a child) but not liver.

I have only had regular LFTs done when on Amiodrone and Dronedrone.
