As I approach my AV Node ablation I was wondering if those who have undergone the Pace and Ablate procedure can tell me how long it takes to feel any benefits. I know this is a very subjective thing, but I wondered if you felt it on day one or did it take a few months.
My own suspicion is that most of the benefit will come from being able to come off Amiodarone and Bisoprolol and this may take a few months to fully kick in.
Def better coming off medication, and awful side effects of af gone instantly, though you are still aware of the condition but for me no dizziness or passing out!
He is home! Came home at 5 o’clock. Was successful and his EP was happy. They said no walking or exercise for 48 hours, then can do walking after that. They said 18 months for a good recovery. Goes back in 4-6 weeks time to set pacemaker to 80 beats per minute as it is currently at 90. Can’t put it straight to 80 as his heart is so used to racing at 120 and the heart wouldn’t like it.
He walked up the stairs when he got home but was breathless when he got to the top. Think it’ll be a long recovery for him as his EF is only 10-15% but they’re hopeful it’ll get better.
We are happy with how it went hopefully each day will get better and we will see the improvement. Thank you so much for asking!
Thank you! We are going out on New Year’s Eve and they said as long as he isn’t dancing on the tables he will be ok. I know, I told him off for showing off so will be spending next 2 days totally rested!
He’s been to the shops.. been in to town on the bus.. so getting out and about. We went out to a hotel on NYE and he was ok but tired. He had a lie down for a couple of hours after our meal but he did well after only being out of hospital 3 days! Still breathless but could be because his EF is only 10-15% or because his heart rate is set at 90bpm. Not sure really! But he is happy with how he is so that’s the main thing. His follow up it in a month’s time.
Well, I now know you are a better negotiator than I. I was told in December that I would have to wait 30 weeks for my AV Node Ablation. That would make it mid-August before I had a chance to feel better. I did a bit of complaining and I am now pencilled in for 1 February – 12 weeks after CRT-D implantation.
Ah that’s amazing news Donald! Ye see what happens when you complain! It definitely pays!
Thank you for asking about my dad. He’s ok yes, breathless but hoping that beginning of February when is heart rate gets turned down to 70/80 bpm that it improves. He has to increase his candestatin to help the pimp function. That’s the only change.
He had a CRT-P (he doesn’t have the defibrillator bit) fitted 6 weeks ago then had the AV node ablated just on Wednesday. So now fully reliant on the pacemaker.
Amiodarone is a fiendish drug ...my cardiac consultant says it should be banned because it has so many side-effects. I was put on it intravenously on the ward and all it did was to cause infection in my arm! I hope you can get off it pdq!
Went into my pace and ablate on Nov 18, 2012 off all meds at time of surgery-had had it with all the med side effects and refused to keep taking them. My EP is very willing to workwith me as long as I've done my research and make sense. Felt immensely better right after the procedure and ha vecontinued to do well. I also wanted off coumadin and other AC's and had a Watchman Procedure on the 15th of this month. Am almost 2 weeks post op; feel fine and have begun the countdown for getting off coumadin. irina1975
