I was over the moon been 2 weeks on magnesium Taurate and my ectopics seem to diminish enormously today out of the blue after a meal which was salmon and vegs started up again 2 attacks within an hour of each other and lasting 7 minutes each.I applied the deep slow breathing to stop them as my heart beats dropped to 54 from 86 and recovered after 7 minutes back to 86 again I am taking 300mgs of magnesium taurate supplied by Amazon and the brand name Swanson any similar experiences guys is Swanson a good choice I wonder ?

I take 800mg of magnesium citrate with a separate taurine supplement.

300mg is quite a low dose.

Thanks for getting back to me Pat is it working for you though because I don't want to overdose myself on magnesium as I was told maximum for men is 400mgs and for women 350mgs.Allegedly if u take too much of it makes ectopics worst

I think it works wonders for me. I also experimented with the time I took them and found my best time to be with water either just before or in the middle of my evening meal.

Take a look at the US site 'afibbers'.

It's where I did my first in depth research and discovered magnesium 5 years ago. I've taken it every day since. Along with several(many) other supplements.

People take various doses of Mag depending on how they tolorate it. If you're having too much you will know as you'll have to rush to the loo. I gradually increased the amount I took until it did just that, then took it back slightly. My levels are 800-1000 mg. I take 800 daily with an occasional extra 200mg here and there.

In America the medics recommend magnesium, here they don't seem to Be knowledgable on supplements. My EP knows what I take and the doses. He asks me about them but doesn't appear to be for or against.

I don't know if you drink alcohol but I used to like a couple of large glasses of wine 2 or 3 times a week. These days I have one double gin and tonic On a Friday and Saturday evening. If I were to have 2 I can feel my resting heart rate go up a fair bit and I don't want to prod my sleeping AF monster.

Yes you right i got the information for magnesium through him on Facebook.I was on Rivaroxaban for 2 months and my cardiologist took me off it and left me on Bisopropol as she said I haven't got AFib but ventricular ectopics now I have another appointment next week with another consultant for a second opinion.

Thank you for your reply

Elaine, no I'm not on anticoagulants. I'm 57 and my EP says I don't need them.

I do however take nattokinase.(look that one up)

In addition to magnesium, taurine and nattokinase, I take: ubiquinol q10, hawthorn, omega oils, potassium, vit D, B vits, vit C, plus turmeric + celery seed (for arthritis).

I think that's them all 🙄

Sinilar to me. I don't take anti coag but did for four months. I'm 65. V active and still work full time as a psychotherapist and we have a small holding too. Luckily AF fir me only two major episodes but enough to scare me and ensure I take whatever helps !

Thank you for the detail information.I will try slowly to increase it and see how it goes with me.My boys bought me on father's day Fitbit Alda which is a great motivator for doing 10000 steps a day and hopefully magnesium and walking every day will do it and reduce my ectopics.I have already lost one stone in weight and need half a stone more to reach my ideal weight which is going to feel great health wise I think have a nice day Pat

Exactly use the threat of AF as a tool to improve your health all-round and benefit by avoiding developing other co-morbidities. in the future.

My Naturopath thinks Mg should be taken with Coq10 as well. For Mg I take a smallish dose of Nutri MegaMag Muscleze (also contains Taurine & other stuff for the heart) as my stomach is not keen on too much and then top up with a Mg spray.

What are the benefits of Taurine ?

Spartan66 profile image
Spartan66 in reply toElaine1951

Taurine helps magnesium absorbion for your heart. That's why the product I am taking is called mamnesium Taurate as Taurine is incorporated in it.

I hope this helps explaining it Elaine 1951

Have a nice day

Don't know the brand. Read abut Hawthorne for eptopics. Worthwhile. Good luck !!

My arrythmias seem to be triggered by food as all my recent episodes are a response to diet and moving around after eating and eating a large meal. Making a few tweaks to my diet has meant I haven't had an episode now for 3 weeks. I can't eat an y starchy vegetables so - no potatoes, carrots, parsnips or any root veg. Bread, cake, biscuits are the worst offenders.

My suggestion would be to note what foods you ate and keep a food diary to see if it occurs again.

The other trigger for me is if I try to move around after eating - I need to rest and focus on keeping my vagal nerve in 'rest & digest' mode for about 30mins after an episode. I no longer listen to news when I eat!

I can't comment on Magnesium as I cannot tolerate even minute amounts - 9mg in a a vitamin supplement wiped me out completely for 2 days. Some people with autoimmune diseases cannot tolerate any Magnesium.

I think you are right certain foods triggers my ectopics and i have to start making notes from now on.

I will also follow your advice and have rest after eating larger meals for at least ro minutes we have to try everything to improve our quality of life and Pvcs at the moment ruins it for me

Take care
