Hi everyone , i thought I would update now as there is finally a bit of good news, after Amiodarone induced thyroid toxicity ( overactive ) , the thyroid levels are back in the normal realms, I still need monthly thyroid blood tests until October when I see the endocrinologist again to hopefully sign me off.
The cardiologist that specialises in heart rhythms in Bournemouth has given the go ahead and my new date is 3 rd August , looking forward to it at the moment but I'm sure nerves will kick in as time gets closer. He wants to try me on Dronedarone 5 days prior to ablation date, ( has anyone else taken this ) I haven't been told to stop taking any Meds , including apixaban , should I question this ?
This site is amazing ,
Thank you
Sharon

Great news Sharon......I have no knowledge of Dronedarone so can't comment. I'm not medically trained, so you need to check with your medics, but I was asked to miss my apixaban the day before the procedure and then to continue with it the evening after. Please check though, as we are all different.....best of luck, John
No pre-op appointment Bob just turn up at 7.30 am on the day , I will re read all the bumf sent to me, but I am seeing my fantastic arrhythmia nurse specialist in Weymouth the week before for her to give me the Dronedarone prescription so will check with her.
Never had dronedarone but it is the drug of choice at my local hospital and people seem to do well on it. Always question anything you are unsure of to put your mind at rest.
Natural to be nervous, hope you can see past it to enjoy the prospect of a freer life post ablation. Best wishes .
I took Dronedarone for six months last year but it didn't work for me, however I am now on it again while I await my appointment for ablation. I think it calms my heart a bit, but I'm still getting nighttime episodes every 3-5 days or so. The alternative was Amioderone which I didn't fancy as I tend to be very sensitive to medications. I'm also on Apixaban. Hope all goes well for you.
I was on Amiodarone for for a year, I had really weird feelings in my heart when being loaded on it ( like a tugging/squeezing feeling) but managed to put up with it, but after 5 months of very bad nightmares and hardly any sleep , together with being extremely sensitive to the sun, my dose was halved, then eventually sending thyroid haywire and it was finally stopped altogether, it was a risk I was willing to try to get back in rhythm.
Good luck with Dronedarone and ablation this time round, my eps is hoping it will give me the best chance of staying in rhythm in conjunction with an ablation , fingers crossed , I'll update along the way !!
I didn't have to seek out an endocrinologist, my arrhythmia nurse specialist highly recommended / and referred me to the one in my local hospital, so I just rolled with our NHS and they were brilliant, scans , blood tests, medication, etc and I'm back to normal ( well thyroid is , obviously I still have persistent afib , so really pleased that ablation is on again ) .
Hi thank you for the response so - I understood that you did go to an endocrinologist ...what about your thyroid, ?I have hypo with a high tsh and borderline free T4 -
I am not on synthroid cuz my general dr said it could be bad for my afib - help - anyone dealing with afib and hypo thyroid???
