Please speak to your doctor before trying any supplements. Not heard of a contra with warfarin to be frank but always bests to check regarding other drugs.
Hi Robert - I started taking magnesium citrate tablets, dissolved in water, last Wednesday. My heart has been so much better since then, it's really quite remarkable. I think it's a good idea for you to try it.
I'm on warfarin and 300mg of magnesium daily. I dissolve the tablets in water and then drink it mixed with more water throughout the day. I believe a lot of the forum members on here take a lot more, but on my bottle of tablets it states 'Do not exceed the stated dose', which is 300mg.
I have been taking magnesium citrate for nearly a year - a friend recommended it. I also take rivaroxaban.
Although I did not seek any medical advice beforehand, I have mentioned it to the cardiologist since.
The tablets are 150mg each and I started with 2 tablets per day (with food) which was the max recommended dose. However I have now increased to 3 tablets (450mg per day) taken at meal times. I take my rivaroxaban at breakfast alongside the magnesium citrate with no obvious side effects.
My experience has been wholly positive. I started feeling better almost immediately and progress has been consistently good. I don't think it was a coincidence when I suffered a set back last December when I stopped taking the magnesium whilst on holiday.
I am not claiming that any of the above is approved practice. I am just stating what I do and that it appears to work for me. Hope it helps you to decide.
Thank you for reply. What make of tablets do you take, where do you get them from , and do you take your tablets all in one go not spread them out throughout the day.
I get mine from Natures Best (either on line or via the catalogue). Normally £11.50 for 120 tablets but currently on offer at £10 - post free if you spend more than £15.
I spread them throughout the day, one at breakfast, lunch and evening meal.
When I was formally diagnosed last June I was having an average of 2 episodes per month lasting upto 20 hours each. These later increased to 2 or 3 episodes per week, peaking last September. The frequency has slowly improved and my last episode was just over 3 months ago. My general fitness and well being is a huge improvement on 12 months ago.
I am taking flecainide and bisoprolol. I also now avoid all alcohol and I have lost over 2 stones in weight.
Not all my actions were succesful and I had a problem when I took taurine which I may post about later.
I would be grateful if you would tell me about your experience of magnesium taurate, as I bought some of the Cardiovasculat Research Ltd ones yesterday. I have been taking Mega-Mag 2ml per day (=200mg), but can't take more because of the laxative effect
I am also taking magnesium taurate, as it's my understanding it is more readily absorbed by the body than magnesium citrate. I've only been taking it for about a week, so probably too soon to tell, but I have no issues of any laxative effect.
Forgot to recommend that you read 'Conquer Your A-Fib' by Lisa M. White. (You can download a free sample from Kindle.) Also suggest that you research potassium rich foods.
Hi it was really interesting reading what you are saying as I want to up my magnesium dosage as on the box it says 2 a day 1.75 mg each so I think I’ll give it a go
