Took 30 hrs. to get groin bleeding fully under control, flat in bed with pressure and catheter. Now EP wants 2nd heart MRI in 3 days due to possible esophageal burn. How common are these problem ?

48 hours post ablation
Not very is the short answer. These things are always possible but apart from bleeding a little from my groin and needing a femstop after my first ablation for a few hours the other two were fine. There is always a risk involved due in part to us all being different in the fine detail of build up of our hearts and other organs but if it were common then I doubt that thousand of ablations would be done each year. Yours is probably only the fourth I have heard of since I have been involved with AF-A.
Thanks. Suspect my EP is very cautious and works in large facility. Recommends MRIs every 3 months for 1 year after ablation.
Hi Lorna,
Sorry to hear of your discomfort
Following my Ablation last August my Oesphosagus was also damaged according to my EP this is quite common owning to the close proximity to the heart and being heat sensitive...
He assured me it would get better in time although 12 months later I am still very much troubled.
Tomorrow l am having a Colonoscopy and a Endoscopy (fasting from 1.00 pm today + laxatives)
I really sympathize with you as it is so incredibly painfull.
I hope you get sorted soon so you can really enjoy and benefit from your Ablation.
Carol.
Twelve months is a long time to suffer. May I should be grateful my EP wants to address problem immediately. Way to multi-task colon-endo tests!
Not the happiest way to spend 24 hours or so, Carol. Do hope it will go well and be over speedily. Keep us in touch! All the best.
I had a massive post op bleed after my first (some 2 hours post procedure) and just over 18 hours bed rest..... the 2nd time I had a femblock fitted but still bled in recovery when they were applying it - was on 6 hours bed rest that I remember. Hope things settle soon.
Sorry to hear this, Lorna, but if it's no more than a possible burn, it might not be too bad. I think it is always a possibility, particularly with laser ablations. Do hope it will not be a problem for you. Fingers crossed!
Hi,
sorry to hear of your problems. I've just had my third ablation and although I had a bleed in recovery I've not really experienced many complications at all. After my first I had some inflammation of the heart and following the second a urinary tract infection but these were relatively short-lived problems.
I do hope you are able to resolve your problems soon.
Best wishes
Bev
