Another reason to avoid uPSA tests.
Maybe it would have dropped more if he continued it. In any case it is so small, it is in the margin of error of the test and so is essentially unchanged.
Is the reason for your question "PSA is dropping anyway without Abiraterone, why is it needed?". This is impossible to say from this unplanned experiment.
I had some issues with drug delivery of Abiraterone at one point so I stretched my supply with alternate days of low dose Abiraterone 250mg with low fat breakfast.
Also if you do stop Prednisone, I was told it should be tapered, not just immediately stopped. Prednisone should be easy to continue but check with a doctor what to do.
Some ideas perplexity (pro)
Could be two reasons: abiraterone stays in the body for several days after stopping it. Also, the enzyme on which it works takes probably several weeks to recover. This is why one should continue prednisone for at least several weeks after stopping abiraterone.
If you don't need prednisone, don't take it but you do need to take it for several weeks after stopping abiraterone until the body recovers from the abiraterone. Short term and low dose prednisone is safe.
Everybody’s cancer is so you might not expect the same result. Being hospitalized with an extremely deadly pneumonia for 16 days last year they would not give me Abiraterone last April. My hospital which I may some day identify does not give any type of cancer treatment drug. You can ask for them until you are blue in the face. They will not relent.
My second time without consecutive abiraterone was six weeks ago after an esophageal operation where the pills were so big and the inflamed sphincter so tender that I dare not try. After consulting with my new doctors they said I could begin taking them. That was a four day absence of abiraterone.
My former APN says Abiraterone stays in your bloodstream up to two weeks.
in January of this year I got my first clean scan from two years of fighting an extremely rare extremely aggressive cancer having poorly differentiated cells (a cancer for all intents and purposes implied goner). This is remarkable having my having only chemo and catching pneumonia landing me in the hospital four days.
Just five days ago I got my second clean scan. There is nothing to ascribe this to except the power of our Lord ,faith and prayers of many. My biopsy spelled hopeless…. months to a year max survival as my former oncologist said.
I would try to stay on a strict regimen of taking your meds. But I don’t think the world will end with you father missing a few days.
