Abiraterone + Prednisone with Preexisting CAD

On November 1, 2023 a PET scan established that my metastatic prostate cancer is castrate resistance. I added Abiraterone + Prednisone to my 3 monthly Lupron shot.

Same PET scan detected severe calcification in multiple coronary arteries, which was confirmed by heart CT scan and angiogram. I have severe calcification LAD artery with 60 to 70% calcified stenosis proximal to mid LAD and 50 % ostial diagonal disease.

This means I already had preexisting Coronary Artery Disease when I started Abiraterone + Prednisone on November 10, 2023. Apparently, Abiraterone can increase cardiovascular risks.

Now, the question is should I continue with Abiraterone + Prednisone? If no, what are my options?

Talk to your cardiologist, but I don't think that abiraterone increases the risk of calcifications.

Thanks, I will do that. Can abiraterone increase the risk of afib?

Good study here on the affects of ADT on CVD…

The effects of ADT on the cardiovascular system are driven largely by indirect modifications of cardiovascular risk factors. Most data, derived predominantly from GnRH agonists (eg, leuprolide, goserelin) demonstrate an association between ADT and increased low-density lipoprotein and triglyceride levels, increased fat and decreased lean body mass, increased insulin resistance and decreased glucose tolerance, and a general metabolic state similar to the metabolic syndrome (although with heightened high-density lipoprotein levels). These changes can accelerate systemic atherosclerosis and predispose to coronary artery disease. ADT has also been associated with both arterial and venous thromboembolic events, including deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary emboli, arterial thrombosis, and stroke.3,4 No clear effect of ADT on blood pressure has been delineated. Indeed, counterintuitively, ADT improves vascular endothelial function; therefore, the mechanism of atherogenesis is unclear.7 The effects of ADT on various cardiovascular risk parameters are summarized in Table 2.

My opinion when your arteries calcify or your cancer calcified or your bones calcify stay away from calcium supplements eat lots of sardines or salmon bones as in canned take plenty of vitamin D 4000 to 15,000 with K2 vitamin that will balance the calcium in your body don't eat White stuff bread sugar milk rice but you can eat potatoes and cauliflower
