Mood Changes on Abiraterone/Prednisone?

Has anybody experienced mood changes on Abiraterone/Prednisone? Specifically, have you ever felt a tad manic?

I've recently had trouble sleeping despite taking sleep aids. Instead of feeling tired and grouchy, I'm somewhat energetic, upbeat, and very outgoing (I've been very "talkative" here on the forum recently). It's very enjoyable actually but somehow feels like too much of a good thing. Like it will end up with a big crash into a depression. It also makes it difficult to rest and relax.

I've never been diagnosed with bipolar or manic/depression, but have often wondered if I have a bit of cyclothymia (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyclo..., as I've always had a bit of "artistic temperament". Apparently Prednisone can unlock your hidden bipolar potential (verywellmind.com/steroids-a...

Has anybody else experienced anything similar?

I had mood changes on abiraterone, but they were not at all upbeat. Not even a little.

I didn't have any mood swings on prednisone, but then everyone responds differently. Maybe you could have the doctor reduce the dose. And by the way if you have difficulty sleeping take the zytiga in the morning.

I hadn't thought of moving the Zytiga dose to the morning to see if that makes any difference, will have to give that a try. I should have also mentioned that I'm also on an antidepressant and maybe that isn't needed now.

I do get the same sometimes. Much more emotional. I’m guessing it’s the lack of testosterone.

"Generally happy with weepy bouts" is a good summary of my state of mind most days.

Coincidentally, my GP ticked the cortisol box on my blood test slip, planning to get that draw done tomorrow.

Yes, like being on 10 cups of coffee. Upbeat, outgoing, energetic, hyper. I will say I calmed down after a couple of months, no "crash" (depression) I can remember. Been on it for 2 years now, going off- yahoo!. The biggest complaint I have with Prednizone is that my skin is tissue paper thin. My arms look like hell, skin tears very easily.

If there is a "next time" will look into 5mg instead of 10mg a day.

Good luck,

Craig

Funny, but as a medically retired veteran with PTSD, I did have bouts of depression with Casodex that I do not have with Zytiga, for that I am grateful...

How's this for humor...

An accountant, an engineer and a statistician were interviewing for a job.

Each of them were asked the same question at the conclusion of the interview: what is 4 x 5?

The engineer replied 20.000 with a 100% certainty factor.

The statistician answered that the sample size was too small to make any reliable conclusions.

The accountant looked around, leaned over the desk, and in a whisper asked, "what do you want it to be?"

Just think? Because of his ongoing ability to increase office productivity, the "Employee of the Month" award again goes to Mr. Coffee.

Thank you Peter.... you got a 4.5 on the joke meter (you're my kind of customer/patient)...

Mr. Coffee had to give up the title.... it now goes to Mr. Weed.........

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
