My father has been dealing with PCA since 2002. He’s had a prostatectomy, radiation, been on Lupron, and short trial of Zytiga. Latest scan showed two lymph nodes and a small nodule on posterior side of bladder. He recently had three radiation treatments to the lymph nodes. Now he has to decide if he wants to go ahead with the two radiation treatments to the bladder nodule. Since he had radiation near there in the past, the radiation oncologist said risk of burning a hole in the bladder is 10%, and hematuria is 20%. If there’s a hole in the bladder, there’s a good chance of having to have the bladder removed.
Rad onc also said if the nodes and bladder are both treated, efficacy is 80% and if the bladder nodule is not treated, efficacy goes down to 40%. My dad is trying to decide over the next few days what he wants to do. We told him whatever his decision is we would support him. We do realize that he will be back on another hormonal treatment/other treatments in the near future. My dad also has other health issues as well. With those risks, what would you do? Just curious to hear others perspectives. Thank you all for your time and your input on this forum. The information is invaluable.
