"Recent scans are good"

Had my six month CT and bone scans yesterday results are in already. I have no new mets or advancement to vital organs. PSA 0.1 since 02/2018 only treatment so far is Eligard every six months Zytiga Prednisone and Provenge back in 2019 . While my quality of life has changed significantly the key word here is life. I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer that spread to multiple locations though out my entire body I ask my doctor to keep me alive to see my grandkids grow up so far so good. Never give up never surrender Leo

go vegeterian,no alcohol maybe just red wine

dhccpa profile image
dhccpa in reply tomark17

Why is red wine different? The new literature seems to point at alcohol in general, I thought.

mark17 profile image
mark17 in reply todhccpa

You need some pleasure in life and red wine has less effect on prostate than others drinks.

Fair enough. We do have to have some pleasures, no question.

Just curious. You had Provenge when your PSA was stable at 0.1? You weren't castrate resistant before having it?

leo2634 profile image
leo2634 in reply todhccpa

0.1

dhccpa profile image
dhccpa in reply toleo2634

Thanks. I had Provenge back in September but I thought one had to be both metastatic and castrate resistant to qualify. But I know those rules can be bent. My PSA had risen but not 2 points above nadir of 0.5, and my first PSMA scan showed no Mets, contradicting all earlier scans.

congratulations on the good news, keep doing what your doing.

Congrats leo. Wicked news. You are metastatic but not on lupron etc?

Yes Leo! Using the immortal tag line from Tim Allen in Galaxy Quest. Love it! Yes, Never give up. Never surrender! If anyone here has not seen it, what a funny clever movie. A fave!

leo2634 profile image
leo2634 in reply toPELHA

Actually the quote is from Winston Churchill but I'll take Galaxy Quest too loved that movie.

PELHA profile image
PELHA in reply toleo2634

Good to know but because it’s actually kind of redundant, I always thought it was intended to be funny and would then make sense for Tim’s character to say.

We were just in the Churchill War Rooms three months ago. Incredible what that man accomplished.

Husband has scans tomorrow. Hoping for positive results!!

Why are you not having PSMA scans performed?

swwags profile image
swwags in reply toTJGuy

CT scans are an effective tool for detecting PCA. Although CT scans will find large bone tumors, they won't catch the small ones. Hence the bone scan

Oh I see you have had choline and PSMA scans in you bio.

swwags profile image
swwags in reply toTJGuy

many different types of scans yes, which may or may not be available to the OP. But his scans are perfectly acceptable in the absence of anything deemed more "advanced."

I thought MRI was the way to go. It was at the start of my dIagnosis even prior to biopsy. I will ask my Oncologist at Mayo.

swwags profile image
swwags in reply toMike65g

my first scans at the start of my diagnosis were MRIs also but once the cancer advanced, I moved on to more sensitive testing

Excellent, great to hear. I was diagnosed 6 1/2 years ago although not as advanced. My Gleason was 9 and 1 lymph node showed positive after my radical prostatectomy. I had recurrence 3 years after, started Lupron & Abiraterone & Salvage Radiation. Completed 2 years of ADT and just had Abdominal CT Scan & full Body Bone Scan in November. All is clear right now. Always love to hear positive outcomes and news!!

What great news. Sounds like Eligard and Zytiga were the right combination. God bless you. Yes, never give up, never surrender.

Would like opinions from y’all. On Eligard since October 8, 2023. Recent PSA 0.162 and testosterone reported as <10 ng/dL

Provider wants to start Zytiga/prednisone in addition to Eligard. Is this wise/necessary with testosterone this low?

leo2634 profile image
leo2634 in reply toVman1

I can't advise you on what to do only what I have been prescribed. I trust my Doctor literally with my life and he has put me on Zytiga Prednisone Eligard from 2018 and Provenge infusions back in 2019 . My PSA have been 0.1 since 2018 and scans have shown only slight uptakes in bone mets and no progression to any vital organs.
