Hubby had radical prostatectomy 6 yrs ago (at age 58) and radiation in abdominal lymph glands 3 yrs ago. PSA reappeared almost 2 yrs ago (went up to 10, then down to 7 for a year, now up to 12. He’s not taking any medication. But his legs have been numb/heavy for about 3 yrs now.
Both neuropathy and circulation issues were ruled out. Cervical MRI didn’t find anything.
Desperately trying to figure out what’s causing it.
Any ideas?
Could be heart issues or simply not exercising enough.
How much does he exercise and what kind?
He’s quite fit. Plays pickleball twice a week, does house renos for friends, wa splaying hockey until recently (doesn’t feel confident on his legs ). Cycles.
I see. Well that’s good. Does he have an oncologist navigating his recurrence or is he just going along with a PSA of 12 on his own?
He has an appointment to see his specialist in January.
Has he had any scans to evaluate possible spread?
Fear of the unknown in hormone therapy can lead to no options in treating this cancer. In my case I had minor issues when one balanced that against a very painful death.
Yes we are all different but refusing to even try the treatment is well …. You fill in the rest.

Hard to say without seeing him. However, lymphedema of the lower extremities would not be unusual after radiation, or excision, of pelvic lymph nodes.
The lymphatic system helps with drawing fluid from the body. If these are disrupted, the system is unable to properly function in that area of the body causing a back up, or retention, of fluid distal to the area that was damaged. TEDS or Jobst stockings can be helpful as well as elevating the foot of the bed at night.
Agreed. I had RP at age 59 and due to recurrence, other treatments including pelvic radiation. I have mild lymphedema in my left leg. No numbness issues, but I wear compression stockings daily to maintain. Kind of a pain but you get used to it. Exercise helps too, as it does for most any condition.
He doesn’t seem to have fluid buildup. No “pitting edema”. His ankles and toes are quite stiff though.
