I have locally advanced prostate cancer t3b no mo, my testosterone has never recovered since finishing treatment rt/ht 2016,and now I have osteoporosis, which has become osteosarcopenia, I have been reading about hmb which has mixed results, and creatine which increases creatinine levels, and contains arginine which I have been reading about that it's not good for p/c and that if you deprive your body of arginine it is better for people with p/c has anyone any thoughts on that.

I used to take arginine as a heart health supplement but since I read it can help prostate cancer grow I have stopped it

do you have a link to more information on that? I’ve been taking L arginine with Citroline for 10 years. Maybe that’s why my cancer is progressing?

I also was taking that. Arginine with citruline. I don’t remember the link. I had just googled “arginine and prostate cancer “

Regarding citrulline:

Citrulline is another amino acid that is closely related to L-Arginine. It is often taken as a supplement to improve athletic performance and cardiovascular health because it can be converted into L-Arginine in the body, thereby increasing nitric oxide levels and improving blood flow.

Regarding its relationship with prostate cancer, research is still limited and inconclusive. Like L-Arginine, the effects of increased nitric oxide levels can be a double-edged sword. While improved blood flow and enhanced immune function can be beneficial, there is also a concern that increased nitric oxide production could potentially promote tumor growth and metastasis in certain contexts.

Given the current state of research, individuals with prostate cancer or those at risk should approach Citrulline supplementation with caution. It is crucial to discuss any supplementation with a healthcare provider to understand the potential risks and benefits based on their specific health status and the latest scientific findings.

According to chat GTP:

L-Arginine is an amino acid that plays various roles in the body, including protein synthesis, nitric oxide production, and immune function. Its relationship with prostate cancer has been a topic of research, but the findings are not entirely conclusive.

Some studies suggest that L-Arginine might promote tumor growth due to its role in nitric oxide production, which can enhance blood flow and potentially aid in tumor growth and metastasis. However, other studies have indicated that L-Arginine could boost immune function and potentially aid in fighting cancer.

Given the mixed evidence, it's important for individuals with prostate cancer or those at risk to consult with their healthcare providers before taking L-Arginine supplements. The healthcare provider can offer personalized advice based on the latest research and the individual's specific health condition.

Same here. I've been taking L-Arginine for heart health. I had not heard that it could promote prostate cancer growth. It is also known as the "poor man's viagra" so it has that going for it too. I'm not inclined to stop taking it, just like I am not inclined to stop dairy consumption. I like whole milk in my cereal and the occasional ice cream sandwich. I'm a rebel. 😎

How much do you exercise and what kind?

Osteoporosis.....consider protein amount in the diet as well as protein absorption which is compromised with aging. Weight bearing exercise (lifting HEAVY weights) is also helpful. Testosterone would be helpful but is NOT an option with Prostate Cancer. Just some thoughts.

yeah, but got to be careful with heavy weights

HEAVY WEIGHTS---just thinking about stimuli for bone growth

Why?

Until they tell me it has metastasized to my bones I am hitting the gym 3x a week and using every weight machine there. At age 74 I am there to maintain rather than get much stronger.

I've used L-Arginine and L-Citrulline to help me overcome the poor blood flow to my feet that I believe happened because of the Abiraterone/Prednisone. I had no awareness that it might be counter-indicated in the case of prostate cancer but I think that even if I had known, the pain in my feet would have been the most immediate problem to tackle. I am not taking L-Arginine as regularly now as Xtandi does not seem to be causing me the same issues as Abiraterone/Prednisone so maybe I should stop taking any altogether.

Your body needs testosterone. If your PSA is stable discuss TRT with an open minded physician. The non-clinical experiments and theories surrounding arginine and citruline are inadequate to guide you unless you live in a test tube (joking). Don't ignore what benefits and supports the health and wellbeing of your whole body. You are not your cancer.

I was diagnosed in 2014 finished treatment rt/ht 2016 my testosterone has never recovered since and now I have osteoporosis, I have asked my oncologist regarding trt but he said I am high risk with seminal vesicle invasion and that there might be sleeping cancer cells so it's not a good idea.
