My PSA was 1.6 on January 8 of this year. On January 31st I had successful open-heart surgery to repair a heart valve. On March 7th, my next blood test, my PSA had dropped to .5. Has anyone here heard that this sort of drop after surgery is normal? Perhaps there are meds used at that time that could be of assistance to some of us. An acquaintance told me of a heart-attack friend of his who had a similar experience--PSA drop after heart meds.

Cardiac surgery meds bring PSA down?
I witnessed PSA decline after long COVID left me with Tachycardia and cardiologist prescribed Beta blockers to address it. My explanation, based on fluid mechanics, is that as the flow of circulating blood and its head pressure get lowered, the hormone carrying capacity -especialy to capillary vessels feeding cancerous cells- is also lowered. A type of "mechanical" ADT. If the drugs you were prescribed affected blood head and flow rate (i.e. cardiac pulse rate) you may be an additional proof to my theory.
I’ve had a Triple bypass 7 months ago, still on blood thinners, Statins, and metoprolol. My damn PSA is steadily increasing, last 3 consecutive results !!
I had a mitral valve repair (annuloplasty) on March 20. I can't speak to PSA (so far I'm undetectable) but although my blood loss was "trivial", I definitely tested anemic about a month later.
My postop meds were low-dose aspirin, metaprolol, and colchicine (plus pain meds).
Thanks for mentioning the anemia. I’m also anemic but thought it was was from the ADT/RT , now …considering your post ….my anemia may very well be from the heart bypass operation.
I mean my anemia may have cleared up after the ADT/HT, but returned after the heart operation.
I have tested anemic from time to time, even before my PC diagnosis, but never severe. Incidentally, my kid brother (who's also had PC) was testing more severely anemic; turned out the celiac disease he was diagnosed with as an infant (and we were told he'd outgrow)--well, he didn't outgrow it.
Also, after my heart surgery some of my thyroid function tests were off (but have since returned to normal). Also, the pre-op CT (chest, abdomen, pelvis) disclosed a nodule on my thyroid. Never a dull moment.
Thanks. Yes, I tested as anemicalso.
That's normal since your PSA is now controlled by a replacement slow mickey mouse pocket Runner's watch.
