PSA rise

2 months ago my PSA was 20. I have had extensive screening done prior to starting a clinical trial on Tuesday. My PSA has gone up to 367 since then. CT scan showed no significant change and I had bone scan yesterday. Onco says it may just be increased activity of existing cancer cells and not necessarily huge spread. I don’t know what to think.

Maybe, maybe not. What was your psa pre that 20 result? If it was around +/- 20 and suddenly you got a rise to 367.. in 2 months, personally I'd be suspicious of the validity of test result. Take another psa test.

For me though, there's so many reasons a psa test could be all over the place. I'd be looking at a time series, as opposed to a single one off measurement. I'd be more concerned if the CT showed a significant increase than the psa test.

The last PSA was around 10, the CT scan is pretty much the same but I get bone scan results tomorrow or Monday.

Got the bone scan results this morning and the Doctor said "it's everywhere"! I asked if it was in the skull and she said skull, ribs, spine, legs...... I start the trial tomorrow but I know there is still the 2nd stage chemo (Cabazitaxel) as an option. I will need to ask what the criteria would be for them to recommend to switch?

My PSA continued to rise: 670 > 900 > 1167> 1600 so we stopped the trial. I was anaemic and had low haemaglobin. I felt awful, weak, nautious and had 4 days in hospital for pain management. I hadn't had this before the trial but they said I have a fractured 4th lumbar vertibrae which gives me extreme pain now! I had radiotherapy on this last Tuesday so hopefully this will help. I am finding walking is becoming more and more difficult but driviong is ok apart from getting in and out.

My Onco has indicated now that Radium 223 would be a better treatment option now as it is better for bone metastases than Cabazitaxel. Any thoughts anybody please?

I'd suggest a new post titled with the latest results/findings/PSA increase. Sorry, can't help more than that.
