Hello all, my dad finished his treatment (chemo and radiotherapy) for prostate cancer 5 months ago and his PSA was steadily dropping from 44 down to 1.1. He is still on ADT. He has to use catheters and got a UTI just after Christmas and took antibiotics. A week ago he had a PSA test and it had shot up to 7.2. Our doctors are useless here and have said nothing other than booking him in for another scan. Could an infection cause his PSA to rise to 7.2? I am so worried what has caused such a rise and so is he and our doctor hasn’t said anything. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you.
PSA rise UTI?: Hello all, my dad... - Advanced Prostate...
PSA rise UTI?
Yes. .Infection and inflammation can cause increase in PSA. One bad reading does not make a trend. Wait and see if it is a trend in PSA rise or just a temporary uptick. Monitor PSA frequently ( every 2 weeks )
Absolutely, UTI's will cause a rise in PSA.
Both good advice. Sit back with a cup of tea , take a couple of deep breaths and try to relax a little.
Yes, anything that disturbs prostate tissue, like infection, urinary retention, and catheterization, cause PSA to rise dramatically.
Thank you for the reassurance all. We are sending so much gratitude from the U.K.
Tell him to drink plenty of water and sugar free cranberry juice.... Regards to Dad and you...

Hi all, just wanted to do a quick update on this. My dad had MRI, CT and bone scan results back and although his 3 'old' bone spots had disappeared and prostate is clear, one new spot has appeared on his spine, L3. He is on ADT, has had radiotherapy to the prostate and he had 4 cycles of Docetaxel early last year (it was cut short from 6 due to Covid). Dr is now testing his biopsy for genetic mutations, and if there are none Dr is suggesting putting him on Enzalutamide. Does this mean the ADT has stopped working? He has only been on it for 14 months. Do you think the chemo being cut short could have led to this new spot? As always, your wisdom is much appreciated.
